Except that nobody insulted the current finalists (to my knowledge that is). From what I've seen, nobody bears any ill will toward the people chosen and the only entry to get singled out over and over was the one that looks like Qustis' hair. What people have a problem with is that the lack of diversity in the hairstyles chosen for the finalists, which is all on SE.

Insulting what someone worked hard on is as good as insulting the person "personally". I'm not here to start a fight, I'm agreeing with what someone pointed out - that as someone who's art is being criticized up down and center for how boring it is or how it isn't up to what you guys wanted to see, how it sucks and isn't as good as everything else you saw, it. sucks. Nobody is trying to stifle your opinions, or start a "witch hunt", I'm saying you could have worded your opinions in a way that wasn't directly insulting what other people worked on and probably thought were awesome when they submitted them!

You can paint it however you wanted by saying well we're not insulting you directly, but you are insulting everybody who is in the finals with page after page of saying they're not good enough.

The question in hand wasn't about the cheater in particular. She was simply replying to me making a comment how awful it must feel to be a finalist and have everyone tell you that most of the finalists didn't deserve to be there over others. You're right that this is a public forum and therefore opinions are expected, but that doesn't mean someone can't have tact when appreciating artwork without putting down others.

My posts haven't been defensive, I have nothing to defend. I think that people have been awful about this entire thing and I've said so, awful in their attitude towards the people who were chosen by SE and awful towards SE about the people they chose.

I'm sorry but... no. No one is insulting the people themselves criticizing style=/=insulting the artist/finalist. What you are saying and insinuating doesn't make sense what so over. I'm sorry you feel "insulted" by peoples opinions, but no one should have to feel bad about giving their personal opinion, ESPECIALLY if they aren't harming anyone, which I do not see here.

As far as I can tell and read, no one here is trying to insult anyone or their hard work.

I wasn't actually pointing out the cheater specifically. But since there was a cheater found in the finalists bracket, it seemed that people will only naturally question how SE's people who chose these finalists, actually went about it. This is the second time a cheater has won/placed, so it starts to beg certain questions about how the contests are ran.

I think it's great you made it into the finalists bracket, did better than I ever could dream of doing, I'm not much of an artist myself, digitally or otherwise. So anyone that can and is willing to make any type of art has my praise at actually doing it! But again, I'm sorry to say I really don't see in this thread, really anywhere that people are trying to actually insult the creators of the final works or the finalists themselves.

And? I'm sorry that just shows people do not like the actual hairstyles themselves, that doesn't show me that people hate or are insulting the artists or the finalist pieces. They just simply do not care for the styles, which (at least for the male side) I do not care for any of the styles as actual hair styles period except for one. I personally wouldn't put it on my hair irl or on my character except for the 1 that I personally like.

I dunno, Buddy. There's more than one way to insult something beyond just calling it "ugly". If my works were called disappointing or not appealing I would be pretty hurt and offended. I'm not even an artist and I know artists and artistic people in general tend to be super sensitive to poorly worded criticism. You can claim its freedom of opinion all you want, but as I said a little tact goes a long way when you're interacting with another person.

I am sorry that you are made to feel awful about your entry or your character as a person, Savvy. I don't know which entry is yours, but I have not, never, nor will, attack you personally for placing. You should feel proud that out of thousands, yours got recognized.

No one is attacking the art particularly, nor the artists. I have not seen any name dropping or bashing other than "man, seen this before" or generally mentioning "wish the devs picked more diversity". This is on the dev team. In applying to the contest, all participants acknowledged that their entry, if chosen, would go public. With this is the unspoken understanding that no, you can't please everyone and there probably will be good comments and negative comments. I'm happy to say that the negative I've seen had not been directed at the artists specifically or their skill. But there might be those nasty comments out there; I'm not omniscient and can't see everything. Those are not ok. I also hope that finalists, like yourself, dont take what a lot of the discontented people are saying to heart or feel it is attacking you personally. That isn't what I'm seeing to accomplish and would cause nothing but conflict between parties and that is not good.
