It bothers me that Deep Breath's single greatest use appears to be to save us from the tyranny of using Utmost Caution three times. Ooh - there's a time saver.

I tried many combinations without success. I started with the assumption, "What if I get lucky and Deep Breath procs on the first Instinctual Appraisal?" That means I get to start with 0 Item Wear, but so what? It still doesn't give me anything I couldn't get with three Utmost Cautions.

Then I started thinking that maybe it's not meant to be used at the start, but towards the end if things go wrong. Suppose you used one or more Instinctual Appraisals but didn't get the rarity you wanted, or just screwed up and are staring at 30 Wear and a useless Collectable-in-the-making.

If you're in this predicament by taking risks to save GP, maybe you're sitting on 300 GP (possibly partly from a Legendary node GP discount). So you might decide it's worth risking Deep Breath, hoping it procs on one final extra appraisal. This gives you a one-in-three chance of salvaging this mess without going over 30 Wear. Or if you saw the writing on the wall soon enough, you might use it one appraisal sooner, giving a two-in-three chance of avoiding failure.

I know I'm reaching here, as most of my own failures coincide with 0 GP. But what about you? Would you ever use Deep Breath to salvage a failure? Have you found some other use for it?
