Whatever, your right!
It is definately not a waste to wait until my tanks almost dead doing nothing else and then using 3 lustrates to bring him back up.

Oh right, I forgot. Healers don't DPS or anything. They just stand there with their thumbs up their bums. In any case, it generally takes one Lustrate to get the tank to a "safe" hp level for casting Physick or Adloquium. Maybe two if they're still taking sustained damage. I can't think of the last time I had to dump all three Lustrates on a tank to fill their HP bar.It is definately not a waste to wait until my tanks almost dead doing nothing else and then using 3 lustrates to bring him back up.

It is quite easy: As you cannot guarantee how good the healer will be I am racer using VIT over STR.
For first time runs I will also use VIT over STR.
And if the dungeon is smooth I will also use VIT over STR to allow some failures from the group.
Play a tank you would like to be but do not say tank should do DPS.
And I never said he did, either =) Usually I saw one, maybe two lustrates, the rest was through physick or adlo. Until I was at around 90% or so.
He's not a troll healer. He's a good healer. I trust him to not let me drop to 0, even when he gambles with my life.
I let tank hp dance low all the time! Gotta keep Eos on her toes. Toss her a buff and keep dpsing away. <3 If I'm really worried, I'll switch cleric off and throw an adlo or something.
Healer DPS isn't insignificant.
This game's meta has made it very clear that no single role's DPS is insignificant. Everyone should be trying to perform their hardest to add to the DPS pot in a group.
If you stacking STR then watch your HP, are you dipping below 50% 10 seconds into a pull?
Are you using proper cooldown together to get the most mileage? ( ie not stacking rampart and sentinel due to diminishing returns)
Are you aware of your party makeup? ( ie if you have all melee DPS what reason is there to pull large groups?)
If your aware of how much damage you are taking, using cooldowns properly, and pulling to suit the party makeup then there's almost no reason to not run at least 3 STR accessories on tank in the current meta. That being said, if your a fresh 60 rocking only Valerian gear then by all means throw on a couple extra, but even then you could easily only have to use 3 VIT accessories. the expert duties really don't need anymore than 16-17 k HP, and Alexander normal is the same. I run 5 STR pretty regularly, but I always do a small pull first, if the healer is incapable of keeping up then I throw 2 VIT accessories on and call it a day. If they do well then we continue with 5. It's a simple matter of tailoring yourself to fit the needs of your party, whether or not the group is capable of handling it is really immaterial. Arguing in DF with people that are close minded is just a significant waste of time. It is impossible to talk sense into the opinionated.
This "melees are shit for AoE" cliches are quite old now. MNKs are beasts in AoE now and DRGs are pretty good too. Just NIN sucks a bit. It's always worth it to do big pulls, even with double NIN, it just takes longer, but it's still faster than doing small pulls and single targetting one mob at a time.
Wait...What? Let me read it again: Wait....WHAT?
So racer then checking the group to be alive I should do DPS? And I was wondering why we got Tank equip which is giving us defense... must be a failure by SE!
A dead group is doing no DPS
A nearly dead group is also not doing much DPS
Go on VIT and allow Healers to ress one, two or even three DPS which are slepping before the AOE while you do not drop to 0 HP....
I am pretty sure the fight is still faster as with you having STR and doing DPS before a wipe....
If you can guarantee this will never happen: Go STR. But be sure if I am one of the DPS in the group I will flame you down cause of having STR instead of buying time for Healer to ress DPS (which are still making more dmg then STR tank) and avoid a wipe.
Just think about Odin.
If you would like to do DPS then go DPS. We are there for protection and to take care the group is staying alive. Sure it is great doing more DPS. But saying: All tanks please use STR > VIT is just not thinking enough. Like DPS which are using DPS increasments but no def skills
It's the general attitude, how many times have you pulled with two melee DPS only to see single target rotations? For me its quite a bit. Hence why I have to change the way I do things every. single. dungeon.
I get it too, the AoE rotations on most of the DPS jobs are pretty boring.
