I vote against Option 1 mainly because why spend a lot of time on a temporary solution? I'd much rather see Option 2 or no option at all put into play if it would mean that we would see the actual solution that many weeks/months sooner.

Right now this isn't something game breaking and as long as it is being changed I personally can live with it until then. No need to lay down several weeks worth of time into a system that is only going to be replaced by the actual system sometime in the future.

That aside, I do wish to commend Yoshi on all his great work thus far though! Hes really taking the time to listen to the playerbase and acknowledge our concerns.

Um...Option 1 is the actual solution, option 2 is the temporary one.

The actual solution will come in patch 1.20 when everything is set in stone like the color ID system. Both of those are temporary and will lead only one step closer to resolution. I'd rather them not do any of those and just focus on fixing the system as a whole instead of wasting time on temporary fixes.

As for whichever option, pick the one that would take less dev time so you can get to work on implementing Color ID. The wait will be worth it.

I think some people are misunderstanding.. Both options 1 and 2 are temporary solutions (to be implemented by 1.20 at the latest), only to be replaced when the Color ID system is ready.

Yoshi's post says the Color ID system will be ready eventually, and gives no other timeframe for it. So, chances are, the actual Color ID system will be ready by 1.21 or later.

Personally, I'm in favor of option 2, because it is less labor intensive than option 1, and I see no point in spending excess labor on a temporary solution that will only be replaced again anyways.. The less time spent on a temporary solution, the sooner we can get a permanent one.

I want to make an apology of sorts to the dev team. I called them lazy and I failed to go back and look at the original post about WHY dyeing couldn't be implemented easily and quickly. My apologies to Yoshida and the dev team.

The problem, like SO MANY OTHERS in this game, is the poor coding done in the creation of FFXIV. Once again it all points back to Tanaka and the train wreck he tried to call a finished product. Yoshi-P knows what's going on. It's just when things come out like the current dyeing system it really makes you go "WTF?!"

Uh, Rubicon, I hate to go all white knight for Hiromichi Tanaka yet again, but much as you may relish the opportunity to bash him and his team, they aren't the ones built Crystal Tools nor are they the ones subsequently did most of the re-purposing it for an MMO; that was a wholly separate team under Yoshinori Kitase. The amount of time it took for a usable version of the engine to become available is one of the problems with which we've been told they had to deal during initial development.

When was the last time you saw a Final Fantasy with an advanced, freeform colour manipulation system on character outfits (or most any other mobile/realtime-rendered object) outside the development environment? I'll bet it was back when they were just applying colours to polygons (FF7's era) rather than textures, if at all. It's probably a feature CT's original developers never saw a need to implement, and the decision to try to make it play nice with one makes this new development all the more surprising.

    Also, one concern:
Will an automated colouring system lead to less well-realised gear shading than the original, manual setup? Or, rather, no, it will lead to less perfect-looking gear shading because each variation won't be hand-made - but will it be a noticeable loss in quality?

Please don't allocate resources for some temporary fix if the rehaul is on the way. All the little princesses here can deal with the current system until it is changed as long as they know it's coming. Please fix the game asap and don't take detours.

This right here, hence the direct quote from Yoshida in the signature.
