Since the OP refers to classes and not characters, I'm presuming they are referring to "Alt" in this sense as different classes. If that is the case, then it's ridiculously easy to level up multiple classes at once. My DRK is currently 193, and my DRG who is still 50 has a 180+ set waiting for him since you gain ungodly amounts of Law tomes while farming Eso's. At the current rate the DRG suit will be fully upgraded to 180 pcs with some alex loot before I finish grinding out Eso's for my DRK, and likely will be on to a set for a class I may consider possibly playing down the line.

You can get 180 nearly instantly. Dungeon spam and a few hunts, no big whoop. You easily grind out full alt sets just from doing daily runs and Alex runs on your main.

Not relevant though because it will drag down to a snails crawl after 180 as there's no systems in this game for alt jobs. You're gated to hell and back by the armory system conflicting with the progression systems taken from World of Warcraft.

And yes, you can make another character, but this game isn't like other MMOs, it's not designed around that. I'd have to sit through eons of forced story missions, Id have to level job after job after job for sub abilities and unlocks. It's not viable. The 2.1-2.55 story missions alone would be agony if done a second time. All I want to do is to have more content in a given week and to enjoy gearing up my main two jobs at once. Right now I have *NOTHING* else fun to do in this game due to a complete lack of middle ground difficulty modes. The end game content is just a fright right now, hyper casual grinds and bleeding edge progression with no middle ground? Who thought this was a good idea??

Since returning I've played hardcore for one month, very casually for one month and already I'm coming close to hitting unsub. This wouldn't happen if I could at least run alts through the slim content. Again, this is the only MMO where I've seen this as a problem because it's based around the armory system as opposed to individual characters. That's fine, but that in conjunction with the lockouts and caps taken from other MMOs is in a huge conflict with that. I had this same complaint in ARR, I completely bottomed out of content around 2.3 and wound up quitting until Heavensward. If 3.1 can't do something to keep me going I'll probably just duck out again until 4.0.

I'd really like to be able to earn loot and points by the class. You'd have to take a couple of steps to make sure it isn't abused, like restricting purchases and off-rolls to an extent in gated content but in the end it'd be a huge net gain for those of us who like alts and have little to do.

There's almost no middle ground content as is, things tend to be extremely easy or extremely hard and that's frustrating but at least allow us to spend some time gearing up alt classes until maybe something can change in that area.
Other games let you do that by...

    Leveling other characters.

You can do that here by....

    Leveling other characters.

One of the selling points of the game (says it on the back of the box) is that you can do everything with one character.

It is far more popular among the playerbase to be able to do this. It's a shame it leaves the RP'ers out in the dark, but I don't see them changing this anytime soon and in fact, expect them to further build on the aspect of one character doing it all.

I agree with OP, it would be nice if there was a way they could release gating for alternate classes/jobs. They could do this by preventing how much currency can be _spent_ on a job instead of earned by a character.

i.e. You can only spend a maximum of 450 tomes per week on a Job; however, this can be carried over* to next week for the purposes of purchasing chest/pants/weapon. You can then continue to earn more tomes, which could be used to spend on an alternate job.

*for carried over, this can be done in two ways. Automatically earning 'spending credits' for any job once it hits 60, and have it automatically transfer if unspent. Alternatively, there could be a button to spend credits by purchasing credits for next week, or "transfer remaining credit balance to next week."

Some of us like only having two or three jobs on a character. It certainly saves on inventory issues, allows you to be different gender/races with no extraneous cost, and I for one, simply get sick of looking at one character ALL the time. Besides, you never run out of quests to level on so you aren't stuck in the FATE zergs constantly.

Wasn't saying it wasn't. However I personally would like to have 1 main of each type without having to sink hundred of hours to just get to the gearing process. I enjoy every roll and in order to play then top tier like I want to I'd have to run through story I've seen before tutorials I don't need reconfiguration of ui. I mean it's what every other game does sure but honestly being able to skip story elements and carry over ui settings would be a huge step in letting someone just level and alt like they can on there "main character". You'd still have to go from 1-60 just without the hassle of being treated like a new player to the game. My opinion tho not something that would be game breaking imo.

Would not be game breaking I should say. You'd still have to do weeklies on all alts. Which would just add to your time subbed regardless. I tend to just let my sub lapse more often now simply due to not wanting to waste yet another span of time gearing something else when it will be lower tier later anyways by the time I actually complete it
