I'll help a newb any day I can, but walk away from noobs who dont even bother to try.

I remember back when Darklight and relic+1 was still considered good gear, I joined a Amdapoor Keep group.
It was 3 fresh 50's, still in their AF.
They noticed I was standing in full DL and relic+1, and asked if they should leave as to not hold me back.

"Hell no", I told em and we got the show on the road. many wipes were had, the demon wall took atleast 30 mins to break down.

The last boss down to barely any health and the 3 newbs all dead, I screwed up on my skills and failed to kill it before the dungeon timer beat us... and I didnt even get to say proper goodbyes to thoose 3 fantastic players, who made that run the most fun and memorable ever.

I'll help where I can if it coincides with my own goals for the day or if it doesn't involve me going too far out of my way. Sometimes I only have a limited amount of time to spend on the game, so I try to use it wisely.

If I'm not doing anything at the moment and I'm near by (if distance is a factor), I'll help. I try to be as helpful as I can, but a lot of times, if I'm just standing around, I'm alt tabbed so I often end up not noticing.

When it comes to the open world aspect of the game, I don't help out all that often. Not because I'm unwilling, but because I'm DPS; only thing I can really help out with is taking down an enemy that's giving someone a hard time. And usually, that enemy is part of their duty and I'm unable to attack it. I do enjoy randomly healing people I come across as I'm leveling my lower level classes in early game zones. And I did once put on my level 15 Conjurer and snuck around some level 50 enemies to do a raise before.

When it comes to dungeons and I'm surrounded by new dungeoneers that don't know the mechanics of that instance yet, I'll often just let them figure it out on their own unless we die more than once to a boss. I'm willing to take a bit of durability loss just so they can get some first-hand learning on a new fight. Unless that fight is the 'Dragons Neck Coliseum', then I'll smack on my U&T tutorial macro because nobody is figuring that one out on their own (and they usually don't even WITH the explanation. How hard is it to position yourself in front of the boss to get hit by an attack?).

I've helped strangers with a lot of things. From aiding new players with free HQ equipment, to joining their party when they're short on tanks or healers for Titan. Part of the reason I enjoy playing healers so much is because I can help other players when they need it, but it doesn't end with merely curing a passerby.

Yeah this. You can heal the player thought so if I'm healer I'll occasionally do that.

I don't like to jump in immediately though, I don't want to be ruining someone's challenge of doing it by themselves. If their hp bar is lower than the enemy they're fighting I'll usually stop and keep an eye on them though, especially if they're a sprig. And if it looks like they'll have trouble then I'll jump in. Also when they're beset by wandering adds, I'll take the add but leave their original target to them.

I'm thinking now I should level WHM so I can roam the Shroud like a wandering hobo and give out stoneskins to random lowbies.

In my FC I help only people who have some potential and will stay in game for longer than 1 week.
I help strangers according to my mood.

Since I main a dragoon, my only real experience of helping out strangers is during dungeon runs. I have no qualms whatsoever explaining dungeon fight mechanics, or spending longer in a run so newbies can get their clears, letting them view the cut scenes, etc. Heck, I don't even mind tanking bosses on my dragoon in low level runs if the tank makes a mistake and ends up dead - I just pass the boss back to the tank when they've been revived/come back, and let them go at it.
