    Bard Lore?

Is it just me, or does the Bard have the least interesting lore in Final Fantasy XIV? I've been reading all the job storylines and they're all dipped in some serious lore, especially White and Black mages. However, Bard is just the story of a man whose seen some things and done some stuff, so he retired and started a band.

Are there parts of the bard's lore that I'm missing? I've just stepped foot in Heavensward content, is there more to be seen there?

I wouldn't say White and Black Mages have more serious lore. Its more their job's are tied to pretty major history in Eorzea. The Job quests themselves, while good aren't that much more lorecentric than the BRD.

The BRD story is very much a reflection of the nature of the power of BRDs songs. The 30 - 50 story is a personal one about a man who's past actions and arrogance got a lot of people killed and the shame and guilt he carries from that. This is significant and represented in the quests because a BRD's power comes from what they feel. The BRD discipline originates from Gridanian archers who due to the nature of their training had to watch in battle as the horrors of battle played out and their friends died, never looking away. They coped by expressing what their emotions through song and those feeling gave their songs power. The Moogles, who understood the power of song, aided them in learning song.

Songs aren't spells. Just singing them isn't enough. Their power is born from the feelings and emotions the BRD has and the BRDs desires to protect and aid their allies.

In the 50 - 60 quests it moves away from a specifically and more towards the nature of the songs power since its very much about trying to find a way to prove the military value of BRDs. Its not overly complex but I think it shows quite effectively, particularly in the last quest, how song in Eorzea can be quite potent.

Boring? Nah just not caught up in an era-ending war, which is fine with me.
I found the PLD story to be the most boring to be honest..

Clearly, the best Final Fantasy character is Locke Cole.

I didn't find it boring as such. Infact the pre 50 stuff is pretty interesting. The post 50 stuff is more confusing than boring. When you get to the end the explanation on what is going doesn't seem to make much sense. Even most of the npcs seem pretty confused on the point of it all.

PLD story line seems boring because it is basically rehash of a heavily romanticized Medieval European knights portrayal. This stems from the Japanese name for the job "Naiito"; a transliteration of the English word "Knight". Everything about PLD story line is about honor, justice, discipline, blah blah blah... being the "perfect knight". If you have watched the movie "Kingdom of Heaven" you will LOL at a lot of the dialogues in PLD job quest because they were copied from the movie.

hmm i rather enjoyed the pally quest and their history, at least they are an organized unit known as the Sultansworn and Papashan who is one of the coolest NPC's is apart of the Sultansworn. So that's awesome.

I thought the summoner was most boring, its basically the Final Fantasy version of Pokemon

If it helps any, I always assumed that Bards were instrumental to the Battle at Carteneau. We see in the opening video for ARR that the Miqo'te Bard is supporting her friends, although she used a move that wasn't in ARR. I can only imagine that she and other Bards were singing glorious songs to help spur their friends to victory.

Until a dragon popped out of the sky and their songs turned to screams of agony, anyway.

I enjoyed the lore of where the first Bards came from. Archers, during war time, who lucked their bow strings, like a harp, to created music and try to lift the spirits of their fellow soldiers. How 'Bards' that came after the wars weren't effective, because they were simply musicians and the "power" of a true Bard's songs, comes from their experiences (in battle, ect.)
