(3.1) Balancing Rental Airships vs Player Crafted Airships

There is, in short, a brick wall in crafting's future: The point where the majority of crafters/gatherers are finally geared out. What will you make with your shiny AF? Who will you sell it to?

they will remove the red scrip caps between 3.1 and 3.2, which isnt too far away, which means that every single crafter on this server is gonna pentameld 8 different ilvl 170 gearsets.

The crafting materia prices will skyrocket soon enough

The rental ones will probably have massive restrictions compared to the FC based ones. Probably limited on size, maybe you can only visit a handful of sectors, as opposed to all the ones you get via FC etc.

I'd say, just wait some more before speculating.

I assume a Rank 1 Tiny Bronco can be used in just the same way as the Ishgard Airship or a Rank 50 Airship with Tatanora parts, at least. Free Company Airships seem to be more about Grade 3 Actions, rather than anything else, they'll always be useful for that at least.

I really don't think they're worthless even without this upcoming content, though... Guess it depends on your servers economy (and how you built yours), but I've earned something like 15m off the Materia mine have brought back since Heavensward launched, and that isn't counting the millions I put back in to speed up building new parts... Glorified Retainer Ventures? Sure, but I'm certainly not complaining about all those IVs I'm getting...

If they really need to balance it though... Just give the Ishgard one an 18 hour recast time, similar to Treasure Maps. If you don't have a Free Company, one voyage to the new zone every 18 hours. If you do have a Free Company, two voyages, or more, depending on how many Airships/how unbalanced that would be. I'd actually find that enhances the content in general, you'd have to plan going out there, it would feel more like exploring and death might actually have a price for once; You wipe out while exploring, you have to home point and you've wasted one of your allowances for visiting the area.

The "rented" airships could be super simple in practice, they just don't offer any perks, they allow you to go to the area and you have to go through a process to unlock new areas.

Fc airships, you can go areas you unlocked and the stats of your ship offer perks during your journey on the island, so you could get 4-5 buffs based on the stats of your airship whereas the "rented" airships would grant you no buffs.

Add areas the rentals cannot reach/items only obtainable from the FC Airship. If the differences is just "Well the FC airship looks cooler!" there's no point in making an FC ship.

There's personal airships, which are a flying mount you get for free, now, but they can't be used for the new zone they're introducing in 3.1, which requires either FC crafted airships to fly around in, or rented ones specifically for this region.

Ahh ok I wasn't sure lol. I was about to run around Ishgard to look for NPC to start solo quest. My FC has ship crafting just havent gotten into much. So you're saying next patch I can use one of my personal flying mounts to explore

From my knowledge ppl r gettin lazy so its pretty much a small market if ur server isn't filled with airship goers.
Cuz i for one would love to buy 100x dusk leathers to craft gear for my fc.

My concern is that if FC Airships just remain glorified FC retainers then interest in my FC in the Airships is going to shrivel up. The fact that most of my FC cant even see what the Airships we have built look like only cements the feeling of it being pointless.

While you can make a profit of the Airships that isn't a big issue for my FC. As it is my FC doesn't really have anything it needs to spend gil on. Tier 3 actions frankly seem like a hell of a lot of work for rather small benefits.

Well the opinion that FCs will never make their investment back doesn't have any substantial evidence to support it. Beyond that my FC has made our money back and then some but more so it has given is something to do and work on. I'm willing to bet that the airship stats affect what areas you can explore (they do right now) and that the rental ships won't have optimal stats. But like I said people are making them for other reason then just to get Gil.
