    True?

So yesterday I get introduced to Linkshells. Cool idea. In reading up on it, I find this line:

"Even if a linkshell is not equipped, text sent over the chat channels will be displayed for all linkshells you are carrying. "

Huh? My expectation is that if I wrote to one of my LS, it only goes there, not to all of them... so is this really true?

It came about because I found doing a private chat (tell) a pain because for every line I seem to have to click on the name, get the menu and select "send tell." Am used to once initiated, it stays private until I change it back to public (i.e,. say).

What u send in Tell will only go to the person you are sending the tell too and for linkshells the thing u send in a linkshell will only go there and the thing u write in another chat opition wont go to the linkshell
Like if u wrote in the FC chat that will never go to the linkshell ur in and the same applies to other linkshells

This means that you will receive messages from any LS even if it's not equipped. I know the wording is a little confusing but it says "displayed FORall" not "displayed TO all". Meh... English.

    Basically what Yata said.

If you have five linkshells, any messages from those linkshells are displayed in your chat box. If you send a message in Linkshell 1, only the people in Linkshell 1 will see it.

Ah... more like a translation from another language that kinda gets managled because the person is native to that other language not English (no dis meant...). Makes total sense you get messages FROM any LS you have, but what you SEND to a specific LS only goes there.

I have no idea what it means by the "even if a linkshell is not equipped" part, though. You don't equip linkshells.

I think that part means the one that is "active". If you open the LS menu and pop the submenu on any of your linkshells, a choice is to "activate" it.
Pretty much the only thing I've noticed this does is I can type /l without a number and it'll go to that specific linkshell (changes automatically if you reply to another linkshell though so...........)

Others have covered the linkshell part, but as far as tells go, you can quickly respond to people by hitting alt+r. This will load your chatbox with /tell [name of character who last sent you a tell]. Holding alt and pressing r repeatedly will cycle through the most recent 10 (or more?) characters who have sent you a tell.

I'll leve the LS part as that was answered.

As Nutz said, you can easily reply by using alt+r (I didn't actually know about that one!)

I use /reply followed by my message. It will go to the last person to send you a tell.

The only problem is that it goes to the last person who sent one, regardless of whether you saw it or not. So, for instance, if a friend sends you a tell, but immediately after an RMT spam-bot who you already blacklisted sends you a /tell, the blacklist will keep you from seeing the spam-bot's tell, but the reply feature will still regard them as being the last player to send you one, rather than your friend you last saw a /tell from.

Alt-r does the same, but since it only fills in the "/tell <character name>" part, you get a chance to spot that that's not the right name.
