I'm pretty sure that they're both the exact same entity with a slight variation in names mostly because of translation.

While they may be the same entity (or at least Doomtrain was inspired by Phantom Train) it isn't due to a slight mistranslation. The Phanom Train in Japan was literally called "Magic Train" and Doomtrain was "Glasya Labalos" (the name of one of Goetia's demons).

And they most likely called it Doomtrain for us because of the 9 character limit for character and GF names.

I think it would be pretty awesome to have a Dungeon take place inside and outside of a moving Clockwork Doom Train. But those PS3 limitations....

Yeah, from the trivia I read, it was originally supposed to be called something like "Death Express", but had to change it because of the limit. Honestly, Doomtrain sounds cooler anyway.
