As far as my experience in XI goes (release until early Wings of the Goddess) RDM was never a tank. It could solo some Notorious Monsters with ease compared to any other job, but that's something else. Never saw exp parties or endgame events having RDM as the tank.
No, We were already disappointed (well i was anyway) that DRK, which should have been a DPS job was turned into a Tank. the LAST thing i want to see is a RDM tank..IF anything it needs to be a caster type.
If they are going to come up with a new tank job it needs to be something new or older game jobs, like Rune Fencer. (which would sound like a Rdm the way you are describing)

We have Summoner, Black Mage as Caster types. So -1 for originality. We need something unique, not more of the same. No, We were already disappointed (well i was anyway) that DRK, which should have been a DPS job was turned into a Tank. the LAST thing i want to see is a RDM tank..IF anything it needs to be a caster type.

And yours is original? RDM tank was already done in FFXI, so -2 for you
But if you want to put that sticker on, we already have PLD DRK and WAR as 3 tank jobs (vs 2 caster jobs) So you actually have -3, Not looking good.

It would be a melee caster dps, which would attack through a combination of spells and weaponskills, which this game does not have.
Making red mage a tank would be a horrible idea.
Blue Mage would make a better tank, and would also be a melee caster.
Dancer was a great melee healer in ffxi, Rdm could be a elemental based melee or we could use Geomancer like it was in Tactics. Sam in ffxi was a melee that could temp for the tank with certain abilities if stuff hit the fan. I rather Dark Knight of been DPS too..I don't like playing tank at all.No, We were already disappointed (well i was anyway) that DRK, which should have been a DPS job was turned into a Tank. the LAST thing i want to see is a RDM tank..IF anything it needs to be a caster type.

Player
it's really hard to get away from that without changing encounters. i'd like to see it too but i don't think they can pull it off. they didn't exactly show off their innovation skills with DRK, MCH, AST either.
XI took DRK as a DPS because of how it always worked in the FF series in general. DRK was always a DPS style job (hard hitting) but suffered in the survival department because of how their skills/spells worked... not to mention def stats being naturally low. The same is said for RDM in that, just as how XI took it, RDM was always a jack of all trades. They never excelled in any one thing to be equal to or better than the dedicated WHM or BLM. XI simply made them into a top support role, which also argued in favor of the jack of all trades style lesser BLM/WHM spells. Traditionally, this is just how it is in the FF universe. XIV altered that a bit by making DRK work as a tank, likely due to the fact they always wore heavy armors.im so sorry but i just find it funny when people say drk was suppose to be a dps cause that's how 11 did it!!!!!!!!!!!! don't change red mage from what it was in 11!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I always wanted drk as a tank, and glad it is. I think red mage would be an interesting take on the tank job maybe something different than the damage mitigation tank, cause pretty much all 3 of our tanks are that now
