Red Mage (Tank) Please!

Well it could be a tank or a support really. Personally I'd like to see a tank class ppl won't avoid like the plague cause "its boring". News flash: All roles press a sequence of buttons resulting in causing cascading numbers to appear in your screen(how larger numbers affect fun I'll never understand) so please SE, give us more " interesting " tanks to utilize.

Honestly though, the absolute #1 reason why people don't take up the tank role in any game is because of the responsibility associated to it. In games where you move around as a group, the tank (the one who bears the burden of handling all the mobs), is typically looked at as the leader of the pack. The alpha. Just like IRL activities, practically no one wants to burden the responsibilities of being a leader. Heck, think about if you joined a simple FATE or hunt group, would you (or anyone else) actively volunteer to be leader? Probably not.

Unless this were a game like FFXI where you don't move around, have a designated puller (usually a THF, RNG, BRD, etc), and essentially setup camp for most activities, tanks will always be seen as the leader in a generic group activity that isn't already being run by a designated leader. In order to change that, you'd need to change the importance of tanks being the first to agg stuff. The boredom bit is relevant too, but is very much a side note compared. Tanks could be over-complicated to make things a lot less monotonous, but that'd also be a hindrance to the population of tanks. It's a big cluster**** situation.

When you use Gauss Barrel and WM you turn Bard from Physical to Caster and change its play-style completely. Just like when you use Cleric Stance you change healers into ranged DPS casters.

I am not saying that. I am saying there are many "types" of ranged casters and casters in general for DPS, Healing roles.

None however for Tanking roles.

Well technically, removing tanking stances turns them into DPS... PLD being the exception to that, be it in Shield Oath or Sword Oath lol.

Technically speaking, a PLD is more of a caster than a BRD or MCH. I mean this in the sense that PLD actually casts spells, as oppose to BRD or MCH which do not cast spells but have skills that take time.

you mean thematically speaking. cause technically they are now casted. and BRDs have more songs than PLD has spells and songs are definitely "casted". Flash the only one that PLDs use all the time is instant.

No, I mean technically. Because technically they aren't casting. They simply have times associated with skills.

The distinction here would be between Thematically and Mechanically. "Technically" is wildly over used, but all it means is that the person is speaking to fact. The Fact is, that as you say, Thematically the Paladin is more of a caster than the MCH.

Tanks are generally considered "boring" because the nature of their role does not allow them to possess the mechanical complexity inherent in dps. If tanking required as much mechanical skill as dps without a drastic shift in encounter mechanics almost no one would do it.

We have Bard, We have Machinist, We have Summoner, We have Black Mage for DPS
For healing casters we have White Mage, Scholar, Astrologer.

For Tank we have.. Nothing.

You are saying we have 2 Physical Ranged Support, 2 Magical DPS Ranged and 3 Healers, but the game has no tanks? Obviously it has 3 tanks. To say that BRD and SMN fill the same niche is just untrue on so many levels.

Red Mage to me always seemed like he was the leader of the party because he understands every role pretty well.

It's just good to know that the likelihood of this happening is extremely slim. RDM (no matter what you want to picture it as in your head) has always been a melee/caster DD, just because people managed to forced it into a tank role in Xi by subbing Nin and exploiting broken mechanics to make RDM into a tank doesn't mean it is one.
