I always found this a bit hilarious. It's like SE was looking no further than, "What is the maximum rate at which we want to allow soils to enter the game in an hour? Five grade 1, or three grade 2, or one grade 3. Sounds right, let's print it."

The difference is, in order to GET those five grade 1 or three grade 2, you have to spend that ENTIRE HOUR mining, whereas with the grade 3 you need to spend five minutes per hour mining, tops. While a grade 2 miner is monotonously flipping from node to node, a grade 3 miner can run a dungeon, do some crafting, then hit the node.

Yeah, an improvement to yield is definitely in order. I garden with pretty much nothing but grade 3's just because they take so much less of my gaming time to collect!

I think most people that want better crop yield, hq or a successful cross are just using G3 as it is. The only time I use the others now is for the flower pots or for the first seed in a fresh crop since it has nothing to cross with. Other than that the lower grades are fairly worthless. It's the G3 soil I'm hoping also get better yields simply because while it is on a timer, that's still 8 hours of waiting to gather a garden plot's worth without using retainers.

The dev. team is aware of this, and currently considering increasing the amount of soil that can be yielded. We're hoping to make this adjustment in Patch 3.4.
That's great to hear. Could the dev team also take a look at the rarity of the new *light seeds for growing shards vs yields because it seems like they're way too rare for the number of shards yielded to actually be worthwhile.

AMEN! I spent over an hour gathering to get one levinlight & one other shard seed. They're harder to get than Light-kissed Aethersand, which is theoretically ultra rare!

Retainers need to at least double the amount of catalysts they return too, it's laughable. Ideally the new *light seeds would grow 250 shards in G3 Shroud Soil or 150 crystals in G3 La Noscean Soil. Using G3 Thanalan Soil could even introduce a randomised mutation effect where you get something unusual, like X number of fire clusters from an ice shard seed along with a reduction in the number of ice shards.

How about being able to plant Unaspected Crystals as a cross with *light seeds to multiply the seeds? So many options!

Yank that first seed out after the rest are laid out and replant, then it's cross-breeding

A mentor stole my house, slapped me across the face, and raised my ping from 15 to 30. Literally unplayable.

This would be AWESOME, especially for those, such as myself, who are constantly growing things and don't wanna spend the big bucks to get the soil or wait for a retainer to just bring back 1. Looking forward to this!

    Retainers will bring back:
    5-10 Grade 1 soils
    1-3 Grade 2 soils

In addition they will apparently be easier to obtain via gathering yourself. Unfortunately no changes to grade 3. They're also adding potting soil to vendors which provides no bonus.

Thinking it over, is there really much point to having multiple grades of soil with potting soil added? With the lower chances/yield for grade 1 & 2 soil the only reason I'd use it is to either start a fresh crossing rotation or as soil for the indoor flower pots. Now I can just skip the first two grades altogether and use potting soil for all that. Might be time to go the same route as the glamour crystals and just have potting soil, la noscean topsoil, thanalan topsoil and shroud topsoil.

3.4 Gone and went and now we're getting to 4.4. Still no change to the rate
