Alumen is required for essentially every Leather Working recipe, and NPC vending your gathered goods really hurts the overall economy of the game.

Share you mats, sell your mats for 1 gil, sell it for what the NPC would buy it at, sell it for 5k a piece, Just don't vend it.

It's pure profit, especially, especially, especially with Alumen. You can earn stacks upon stacks within minutes at the higher ranks. If you're actively trying for it, double that. Don't be greedy.
