o I do love the idea of dps but tank does make more sense due to they have more hate abilities, I love Samurai more than casters honestly, so yeah I am a bit excited but not marching for it. I understand that the new expansion came out recently and waiting is a part of life, but I do want the Samurai soon! I think tank works best because we only have 3 versus like 1000000 dps(its a joke chill out raging dps person... if you are there) However I understand it being dps.
Well they also kind of announced Red Mage (It's also Yoshida's favorite job and the one he wants the most) so wouldn't making Samurai a dps be kind of redundant? It would be an awful idea to release two DPS jobs at the same time.
Also I mean ninja already has that eastern dps theme down but we don't have an eastern themed tank at the moment.

I think it's likely that SAM will be a tank, at the PAX panel before 3.0 it sounded like it came down to DRK & SAM in the tank role, and it went to DRK because the 'magic tank' was a more distinguishable concept for the 3rd tank option (using MP).
I'd be excited for SAM tank because I can imagine it being a tank functioning similar to WAR: Strong DPS & self-recovery TP, but with it's own style featuring a faster GCD.
I can imagine Redmage playing like a utility-DPS ala MCH/BRD, but wants to stay in melee range for auto-attacks and some melee Spells like SMN Miasma II.
My real wonder is whether they'll have base classes. I'm imagining so. And if that's the route, I could see SAM as a soulstone Job coming off a Swordsman base class, with a possible DPS soulstone release even further down the pipe (to finally get that sword-wielding DPS job that's missing). Like the tank Job Samurai having 1 large katana & a Wakizashi (that works more like a shield, has defensive stats similar to shields), and the DPS Job having a Wakizashi offhand that's more DPS functioning - ie dualwield (maybe too similar to NIN?)
Redmage uses a Rapier, I suppose that's the weapon everyone would assume that job would use?

I think we've mostly seen the end of new jobs having a base class. I mean it doesn't make much sense to release 3 new jobs with Heavensward and then turn around and start adding classes to jobs again.

Nah, they can revert back to adding classes again if they want them to be available to newer players. Like how Rogue was. They could be used to attract said newer players. The 3 Heavensward jobs could be the exception. But the expansion is so far off and we won't know until then.

Reverting back doesn't really make much sense now that they've started this trend. You can still go classless and have them be available to new players to tinker around with regardless. If they were going to stick around with classes I think we would've seen the 3 HW jobs with base classes. There's no real reason to leave all 3 of them the odd men out, even if you want to restrict them to starting out lvl 30+ in the beginning, and suddenly boom classes/jobs again. Add on the fact that all the new abilities are job specific for each job and can't even be used by classes and the evidence just mounts. It doesn't really make much logical sense to do a 180 on all that.Nah, they can revert back to adding classes again if they want them to be available to newer players. Like how Rogue was. Besides, at this point in the game the class/job system feels like nothing more than a 1.x hold out. Once you get a soulstone there isn't much reason to return to using the base class except only in the most niche of instances.

As far as RDM goes, I am hoping for a melee support. I feel like that would be the best way to capture the "do it all, master none" theme of RDM. Let them buff, let them debuff, provide a decent amount of damage, and give them a sort of heal that works more as a HoT. Rapier seems like a given, but we could go the extra bit and give them a offhand as well. All of those shields THM and WHM use to have could be restated to RDM and given a point again. Maybe we can do something amazing and let them switch their damage from physical to magical, and whether you use a wand or sword would be completely optional. Not one better than the other, but the same stats. It would be an illusion of choice that wouldn't demand you have one or the other. I'd even go as far as to find a way to let them glamor over each other.

RDM should be able to sacrifice TP or MP to provide for other classes. Give up their MP and MeLee dmg. Give up TP and cast spellsAs far as RDM goes, I am hoping for a melee support.
