Confused about gear progression after 3.0 from lvl 50-60?

    Hi,

im confused on how the gear progression works after i hit 50 and while leveling to 60? Im not yet 50 so i just want to-do some general research. The confusing part is the new 3.0 gear/stones/dungeons.

It seems the main goal is to get to ilvl 142, so you can run the lvl60 "law" dungeons via DF?
Only "The Vault" + "The Great Gubal Library" seem to drop such ilvl, without requiring a high ilvl them-self? The other source seem the daily leveling roulette for 100 law stones and finally expansive crafted gear.

My main confusion/concern is this: Except for unlocking the "high Roulette" and fun, whats the point in doing all the "old" lvl 50 dungeons more than once? Even the first lvl51 dungeon has ilvl120 drops.

So basically what ilvl is recommend to start running the 51-59 dungeons as a tank and are there any other sources accessible for a fresh lvl50-60?

    thx
    Andy

You will get a ton of gear as you level up through the main story quest and clear quests in each of the new zones, so that will keep you up to date on one class and enable you to do all of the new content. You can boost your gear from the market board and crafting in between, plus dungeons, so as you predict you won't need to be running those old level 50 dungeons again after the first time you check them out.

Thanks to quest rewards alone you should be very close to ilv142 when you reach 60 for the first time, and that doesn't take into account any drops you pick up in dungeons. You can bump that up to il145 very easily just by replacing any straggling equipment which isn't up to spec, and at that point you should be gathering law and able to figure things out. I play in the most casual of casual groups and none of us had any worries about meeting the gear requirements for the HW challenges as we levelled up because the quest rewards are so generous the first time you play through.

Gear progression from 50-60 is quite simple. If you follow the quests and do sidequests you'll get around ilvl 140 at 60. Add some dungeon pieces from Ex-roulette dungeons (drops are ilvl 160 in there) and you'll gear up quite fast. Throw in some law tomestones and Esoterics(albeit slowly) and you'll be around 170 in no time. Things start slowing down around there

The above posts pretty much nailed it. Just keep leveling up and quest gear alone will have you covered. For second jobs or so on, you can buy normal-quality whites (most of the quest rewards are high-quality) from NPC vendors.

The quest reward gear is actually divided in two groups in HW quests. Some quests will only give you melee pieces, other quests will give you the corresponding ranged pieces. I was able to level and gear both DRG and SMN simultaneously that way. The only difficulty was in the accessories, as those are not divided and so I had to choose, but dungeon drops helped fill in the gaps there.

Continuing the main story quest will gear you up. Assuming you complete your level 50 job quest (And you absolutely should!), you'll be handed item level 90 gear right after hitting level 50. From there, the main story will hand you accessories, weaponry, and gear that goes all the way up to i110... which is a perfect value to start Heavensward content at. And then Heavensward itself will take you right up to about what you need to be at to begin the Heavensward postgame.

If you received rewards from RAF, you'll have 10 silver feathers... I got THREE (3) 120 pieces (Ironworks gear, chest, legs, weapon) for those 10 feathers... going in I though I'd only get 2, but the chest & legs comes as a set. That put me ahead of most of the post 50 MSQ rewards, BUT I also found it much easier to clear stuff doing those!

Thx for the infos, so basically just do the MSQ and wait for cool stuff.

Just finished the quest for the blue ilvl90 stuff and this made all my lvl 1-44 gear look like crap At least i always just bought the cheap stuff from the market, since i was expecting such equipment devaluation.

PS: The biggest equipment progression oddity is the problem that you cant meld the sockets all the 1-44 stuff from the market usually has. I tried to keep up armorer just to make use of those "meldty" things i have plenty of, but gave up at around lvl30 realizing how tedious the crafting system is.
This feels like playing Diablo/Path of Exile and not being able to make use of you sockets until you finished the game. It should be way more accessible to actually use the sockets your equipment has.

Honestly melding isn't worth it 99% of the time anyway. The edge case is endgame tanks and healers, which for tanks, lets them double dip in main stats and for healers lets them get stats none of their gear has. And even then it's really only a thing for groups pushing for server firsts and such.

Agree that the crafting system is tedious, but it is what it is...

In regards to this, first off thank you. I finally got into heavensward and immediately switched to DRK, I had no idea they would hand me i90 upon hitting 50. So that clarifies that worry. However, now that I finished the 2.1-2.55 quests I have no means to get to i110 anymore. Would I be able to quest in heavensward in the 90 gear and leapfrog the 110 so to speak?
