When the time comes, I'll either go to Mutamix and get the old materia cleared out, or I'll make a new item, convert the old item to (hopefully) Grade V materia, and put the resulting materia in the new one. Which I do will depend on factors including the relative availability/value of the mats to craft the particular new piece and the Grade 5 materia, and I cannot predict that without knowing what changes/additions SE will make to crafting and gathering by that time.

I wouldn't say "not available" just "difficult to obtain". I got lucky on one of my transmutations and got a craftsmanship V

As far as converting i170 crafting gear, I would wait until the patch notes explicitly say that you can gain them from converting. They explicitly stated that you couldn't at the release of 3.0, and did not mention otherwise in subsequent patches.

I'm aggressive with melds but I did the most logical thing which was to short my craftsmanship on my melds, and leave my main/offhand open for extra craftsman melds if needed. I think I'm one or two stats off max melds on my two star accessories (which is all you need to use my higher CP rotations). Assuming that you max CP melded your i150 gear (which again is what I did).

I should link my recommended i150 left side with i170 right side to reach the max CP.

Also since I'm just short a hint of craftsmanship and like two quality from max, I am not anticipating revising my melds.

Yah, I guess part of me (the frugal side LOL), thinks, "Well, if Tier V (for Max) isn't readily available, it feels like a waste of money to meld less than Max right now." Heh.

But there are some good ideas here (such as hopefully by then Tier V is easier to get, and you convert the pieces that weren't maxed out to maybe get a Tier V; or just get close enough etc.). Thanks.
