If not the ability to change companies, maybe allow players to buy items from the other GCs for a higher price once we get additional ranks.

Possibly the best solution. You win.If not the ability to change companies, maybe allow players to buy items from the other GCs for a higher price once we get additional ranks.

Give the option to those who want it i guess but you should lose all achievements and seals if you do so.
Thats being said I don't see any reason to change right now, unless they really screw us over gear which is yet to be seen.

Just voted, seems that players like loyalty![]()
The game makes it VERY clear that joining a company is a major, permanent choice. If I could change companies later after that huge ordeal, I think my sense of loyalty would take a big hit.
Not being able to change gives the choice significance. Consider well and choose wisely. Have pride in who you're siding with.

It's already set in stone that you can't change your nation. That's why they made you do 3 missions and watch the inauguration of each Grand Company before you choose one. They even made you check of a box then press accept. I think it's pretty much set in stone. So NO, you can't change.

I believe SE said they would allow you to change companies later... and I am split on the question.
One side I think no because you should be bound to the company you choose. It's a question or loyalty, could someone honestly trust another person who defected from one group to another. Will they do it again and betray this new group too? Are they a spy, could someone really trust them with any type of information?
On the flip side, it is just a game and some might want to experience all the story lines. Just like someone want to switch Cities so they can do the story lines for the other two cities. I know I started in Ul'dah and now I wish I had started in Grid, because I enjoy the story line better and I would love to switch home cities.
Edit: Oh that's what it was... they said it don't mean you won't be able to switch later and they mentioned Free Companies...
- It doesn't mean you can't switch (grand company) later on, later we are looking to adding "Free Company" where you can join optionally

I'm just a bun boy, doing bun boy things.

To add some flavor to this topic, here is some food for thought if you are worried about spies from allied nations. Cid was once faithful to Garlemald, but after certain events that took part in the past. Cid felt that the best course of action was to defect from his own nation because in the end he knew it would only get worst.
So I ask you. Would you or would you not trust this man, given that he could potentially be a spy for his nation? Also if your nation were to follow a similar path or take a course of action that would not agree with your morals or views. Would you do the same? Or would stay the course?

Everybody makes mistakes. Personally, I think it's a bit harsh to permanently stick some one in a GC. There should be some way to get out at least once, even if it is a painstakingly difficult thing to do.
People's minds change. You might join a GC thinking it's right for you, only to find out it's not once you're finally in. I'm content with my choice, but I know plenty of people who thought they knew what they wanted, but in the end found out it wasn't what they expected at all.
Arguably, there isn't a lot of content out yet for people to make concrete decisions, but regardless of that I think players should be allowed one chance to correct any mistakes.

I don't know how I'd like to experience the war quite yet so I haven't decided. I'm adverse to choosing now in case Limsa, as awesome as it sounded in the speech, turns out to have the absolute worse CS's and storyline attached. So while personal chocobos are nice I'll sacrifice a little leg work until further information comes out. It is indeed something I look forward to, the CS's, and to join now because of some artificial loyalty everyone seems to feel, or the necessity to own a chocobo seems blegh.
If I had the ability to change even once down the road I'd like the insurance that I wouldn't be stuck with the crappiest GC just because I felt the urgency to get a 'Bo.
