I am just going by the FF wiki that says KO status is sometimes Killed Off or Dead (not to be confused as actual plot-related death). I said "some titles". I don't play a healer maybe the tooltips do say you bring unconscious people back all I know is when *I* get brought up it asks me it I want to receive a "resurrection" and I rise up on a beam of heavenly light with feathers floating around me. I made assumptions based on that. KO vs Death when it comes to MMOs can be hazy to me when the animations clearly show one thing vs another.
Anyway, whether players are KOed or not is not really the point at the heart of my argument here....I don't even HAVE an argument here.... But everyone is latching on to the KO thing.
Alright here's what I am trying to get at: Healers feel like they can resurrect people and heal from grievous injury so I am saying Haurchefant's death must be a whammy to them. My healer friend was screaming "I can fix this" after a Vault run. I am a BLM the most I could have done is Mana Ward but she was a healer. Haurchefant took a devastating blow from a Primal through his torso but she's healed me up (not from a KO) after taking much dumber hits than that.
Again, I am not saying we SHOULD have been able to save him based on our combat abilities. Ludo narrative dissonance is a thing that is unavoidable in story driven RPGs. I am saying my sympathies go to healers who probably had the most kneejerk "I could have saved him" reaction. Paladins probably were shocked for similar reasons....Watching someone take a hit for them when all they do is take hits all day. And with shields, better ones than Haurchefant's.
Thinking about it, I would have preferred the story had done this. Not just because at least one of my favorite characters would have made it but because I love the idea of the Warrior of Light actually suffering physically and having to push through it. When we lost our Light I thought the story was going to do something with it but it didn't quite. We slowly regained it throughout Heavensward. I *liked* that plot thread, though, so us taking a hit from the Knights to save someone we care about when our own Light is not as strong as it used to be would have made for an interesting turn in events for us. Well....who knows. The Garleans and Ascians may have ways to bring us lower than we could ever imagine still.
Until then, to go back to this thread's original point, letting us lay flowers for our departed comrade is literally the LEAST they could do for our WoL's surely wavering sanity.
