    And THEN I had to go explain to his father WHY I let his son die, when I could easily have prevented it!

    Did they just not think things through enough to realize they'd need a REASON healers couldn't just heal him? At least have someone make a remark about how blah blah aetherial blah blah prevented the wound from being closed magically, so a big chunk of the fanbase doesn't just kinda feel like jerks for letting the one person who was always on our side die?

    I made that same complaint, but after looking back, you're dragged out of there before you even get a chance to examine her, let alone cast Esuna/Leeches. You had time for an entire conversation between Haurchefant taking the hit and actually dying, so it's not really the same situation. (Though again, if they'd at least made some effort to explain WHY he couldn't be healed, it would be much easier to accept).
