Haurchefant was framed so much better as a character than the past characters who died. Most of which didn't actually die (I'm sure we all agree the Scions are still wandering around out there in various states of "Oh, Gods, why?"). I actually really liked Moenbryda too and wanted her to stick around but she was only there for a few quest chains, compared to our friend who's been around since patch 2.0.

I knew he was going to die of course. He was just becoming so likable I could feel the game going "Love him! Love him so we can take him from you!" and then before the Vault happened he told the Count his arm would not falter and his shield wouldn't break. I remember almost shouting out my monitor "Don't say that, you idiot, the writers will hear you!" Even knowing he was done for that death still whammied me, though. It probably didn't help that the Vault dungeon itself had left me drained.

It actually bums me out that he's gone because him, Estinien, Ysayle and Alphinaud are my favorites and of those four Haurchefant was the only character who made me laugh.... Okay, well Estinien and Alphinaud can too but I'm not always sure "laughter" is what the writers were going for in those scenes. It's always sad when the character that makes you smile gets axed first. Come back, Haurchefant...you were the only NPC that my character had any on screen chemistry with. Who is going to give me chocobos now? (PS: Anyone else notice in the description that the black chocobo is "more muscular" than you'd expected...Freaking, of course she is...)

I sit by the memorial (it's not his actual grave site) sometimes with the Unicolt then wander off. Having a way to honor him and Moenbryda would be nice, but I'm guessing Haurchefant is going to come up again. Not come back but come up again somehow even if just in side quests. SE knows he's popular.... I actually think he might be the most popular NPC in the game. I haven't met anyone who doesn't at least like him.
