Does anyone know how you get the Schematic for the small merchant wall? On the schematic board I only see armor shop prototype, mog house, restaurant and weapon shop.

The reason I have a house is to have a place in the game that is just mine. If I craft or just chill away from the crowds in the cities or santuaries. I could do the same thing inside my fc's house. But again sometimes you just wanna have that 'me' time.
Because I can build my own furniture and I want to be able to use them. Plus it looks fun to have a house I've organised how I like.
And then there's the housing only features you're (Currently) locked out of by being houseless, like gardens.

Housing is desired so I can undress and cyber like in Sword Art Online.
I played Sims for a long time and the idea of combining houses and MMOs is great imo. It's a space to decorate and make mine. I can't afford gourmet meals or a giant bathtub in real life but I can buy them in game for the sake of fantasy. Figuring out fun furniture combos is an end-game of it's own, like glamour on steroids. My friends can come visit and the people living in the ward are able to see my house like I can see theirs. Instanced rooms can't offer the full experience so I'm happy about getting an actual house. Fc and personal housing being mixed means that the ward is more lively since more than 30 people visit the ward regularly.
Game-play-wise it's great to be able to teleport to three different markets cheaply now that houses can be shared. I finally have a real reason to level my crafts and make money, and having easy access to crafting vendors and retainers makes it convenient. I have made more crafted items in the past few weeks than I did since I started playing!Gardening is fun even though the profit isn't too great on my server.
I'm in a great fc and this doesn't concern me personally, but perhaps some people desire a house so they don't have to risk being locked to an fc because of their personal chambers.

So I have somewhere to poop other than the wilds.
Private changing area that I can dye and glamour stuff in since inn rooms have that silly restriction on that and FC houses have people standing around outside your room. I also don't like relying on an FC for housing scraps.
that's what vanity games like this, is...virtual barbie. grown-up men pick a hot barbie, so they watch her ass, then dress her in various dresses (cause they can't get any in real life, or so the stereotype, goes)
gamers chase all this content, so they can get new dresses for their barbie, cause you only want something, until you get it - then it quickly gets outdated, cause there's new fancy dresses \o/
i don't even know what to say about people that play lalafells...maybe they were drunk and/or high, and thought it was funny - or you're a girly man, and thought it was cute...or you're a girl and think it's cute. (i won't go *there*)
ehm, so we got all these ugly cat girls, with ugly hairstyles, and ugly clothing, and they are running around being ugly, and think it's funny they can tank in a bikini...but it's actually just ugly and stupid...but most ppl are stupid, so it's to be expected.
So i was doing roulette, and there were these 2 lalafells in wedding dresses, and a...male something, in tuxedo, and they were all ugly and stupid...why would you even do that? it goes against all logic and reason...but idiots don't have much logic or reason, and most ppl are idiots, so it's to be expected.
tl;dr: MMOs are virtual barbie, and people are idiots.
Well you are playing this MMO too and purchased a house so, you know, might wanna make sure you build it with a more sturdy material then glass. I would also argue that in terms of content being outdated housing is way better because unlike all the end game raid gear that is obsolete within a couple months of release, housing and decor stays relevant for like, ever? Even the very first decor they implemented still holds appeal for many people.
@ OP I like having a house because it is a piece of the game world that I own. It's something to call my own and share with both my brothers and we can decorate it and stuff. It doesn't get outdated either like practically ALL other content so it's something we can keep building up and decorating and it's just way more fun for me then constantly grinding for something that I'm going to be replacing at the next major patch anyway.

I just like having my own crafting spot where nobody can bother me
Also furnishing/gardening stuff feels a lot like playing animal crossing
Because its a video game...
People play the parts of it they find fun - it's great to have options like that.
If we wanted to do something useful we'd be working, or exercising, or taking classes, or volunteering or etc etc etc. I sure most people on here do all these things at least part of the time.
But we don't want to do that sort of thing all the time - we like to do something useless and fun sometimes too. Housing is no more or less pointless and useless than the rest of the game - just different people find different things fun.
