People have houses for the same reason they have alternate characters and focus on glamours.

Not everyone enjoys MMO's for the technical leveling aspects of the game. I have a whole linkshell of people that run 2-3 characters and spend most of their day doing content to get glamour gear and mounts. They don't even roleplay, but they enjoy making their characters have a "look and feel" to them.

Housing is the same for them, they spend inordinate amounts of time decorating, and crafting furniture for their houses.

That said, I never really got it. I do own a house and a FC house, but I use them as a way to avoid being in places like idyllshire. Sometimes, I just dont wanna be in a large crowd of people trying to highlight a vendor.

gardening and stables mostly. gardening is the only way to obtain some chocobo food like thav onions to level up or curiel roots for the exp bonus. sure you can buy them at MB for a ridiculous price but nothing like doing it yourself.

oh also, it's funny to own multiple houses in a world where everything's been sold out for months, everyone is trying to convince themselves that they dont really need a house, that it's just a very expensive vanity item, but we all know it's only because they cant buy one, deep down inside, everyone want a personal house.

I have a medium house. I'm also a prolific crafter/gatherer. I like the area of Lavender Beds with the little creeks running by and the trees swaying in the wind. Plus I get to show off my high-end crafting skills (Limitless Expanse Fountain yeah!!) Really, it provides me with a quiet place to craft, easy access to materials and repairs. It's very tranquil.

i bought a house, when new wards opened up, cause i thought someone else in the FC, might want one, but couldn't log in time...but no one did, so just kinda started putting stuff in there.
it's cozy, and maybe i can pimp my room, to be as cozy.
other than that, i don't care about housing - it's pointless, just like all the stupid people who get upset, they can't get a house.
I could give my house, away, for free, cause i don't care about it - but something else i dont care about, is stupid people, so i wouldn't give my house away to stupid people -.- so my house is kinda there to ward off stupid people.

chocobo raising is pointless too? cause if you want your lv20 chocobo, you need a garden, a stable helps too. unless you only play FF14 for the "challenge", in that case i'll recommend FF11.

/edit: add a cheap teleport to a place where i have no loading time due to no cluttering (unlike laglimsa) and everything i need (Retainers, MB, NPCs etc.) in one space


@OP: if you have housing: 100k are pocket change - use your garden - there are still items out there that can only be gardened and have quite a value

Meanwhile, I at least would like to have a private room, but they cost 100k gil. We keep saying that, when one comes available, we'll move up to a medium plot; that means that any gil spent on private chambers, which cannot be moved from house to house, is wasted... and it's not pocket change we're talking about.

Wait what? I'm a fairly new player with no idea how to make lots of money. I just do MSQ, some sidequests/leves when needed for levelling, 1 run of each dungeon as I unlock them, oh and I sell the materia I don't want that I've converted from gear I'm not using anymore. I'm level 44 and I already have 200k gil.

I used to be a 4star crafter, it was nice to monitor the market while dodging landslides, keeping my company chest stocked up with my sellable items leaving me able to insta restock when sold.
