Why is Housing even desired?

Gardening, and just to show off my wealth. Also on the original post about how you have no ties to your neighbors, I guess it depends on your server. In Zalera, just about anyone with the money to afford a private house or a FC house knows one another. So we constantly visit each others houses, Critic one anothers furnishings, and plot raids. Zalera also has a lot of roleplayers also, so the housing ties into that as well. Mostly my house is to just show off acheivments and all the stuff I crafted.

Housing is running out in all of the cities and I think it would be cool for them to add housing in the new area (Dravanian Hinterlands). But also they need to either expand the land in the housing areas or make new areas. Also it wouldnt kill them to lower the prices either. 41 mil is a bit steep even for a free company.

They don't need to keep adding land, they need to just make it instanced. Using the current model they'll never have enough plots to go around between every player and FC that wants one, especially when plots have set sizes. Or at least keep FC houses in the wards and move players into instanced housing.

Look, I know you have a hard-on over the idea that other players actually care about looking at your house (they really don't), but the current system is unsustainable. There are far too many players and more join the game very day. Even if the game's population were static, the fact that there's no limit to how many Free Companies can be made per server still brings rise to the issue of there never being enough homes to go around. The number of homes per ward is too small (only 30 plots in each ward and subdivision) and each plot being a set size further exacerbates the problem. It's a mess that's only going to get worse.

We need instanced housing. The "house" doesn't have to be you zoning into a room, it can look just like the plots we have now (complete with an outdoor area), only it's instanced instead of being in a big neighborhood. The absolute best way to deal with it is give everyone a small house/plot (smaller than our current small houses) for free and you can pay gil to increase your acreage and modify your house. People who have already bought a plot under the old system would just get the equivalent sized upgrade for "free". It can still be connected to a central hub too if you like the idea of having neighbors.

People under the old system get equivalent "free". ..connected to a central hub if you like having neighbors.

SE could've made the current system workable. But guess what? MONEY. Instances wouldn't have "hubs", the best you'd get is a system based on FC rooming. And who's to say who lives where? When everyone wants to live next to Twitch Streamer A, then what?

I'm not getting shoved in a box against my will for "free", I'd want all gil invested in the house refunded, since it wouldn't be the house I paid for.

Graphics are rendered on the client side, so the house can look like how it wants Since only the type and decorations have to be transfered

It is not a matter of waiting. The vast majority of players will never have a house in this system, no matter how hard they work or how long they wait. The system is broken.

You can count me as part of that "entitled crowd" you speak of, and I'm proud of it. Why?

Because I pay the same sub fee as everyone else, and I AM entitled to have equal access to all the same content as everyone else, including housing.

There are myriad benefits to being part of a free company. Each company has a chest whereby members can jointly store items and gil. There are also company actions which grant members bonuses such as increased experience points. Perhaps the most sought after of all perks, however, is the ability to purchase estates and build residences to serve as a base of operations.

And aparently its an ability that only 1440 individuals (FCs) per server have, so houses are not for everyone it seems.
