Error in purchasing Esoteric gear.

I don't know if this is right place to post, but the forum didn't allow me to post in the "Information" section.
That said, for the question.

I just recently left my static, actually some hours ago because I don't have the time raid harcore anymore and I'm starting university again.
I'm going to play much less from now on and since I'm free from static obligations, I wanted to switch class from DRK to MNK.
Here's the problem:
I went to purchase my Esoteric weapon, but when I went there, without even thinking, I bought the DRK weapon instead, wasting 3 weeks of Esos.

Then I read in the Shout chat that if you ask the GMs and explain why you made that mistake, they will give you another piece of Eso for yours, as long as it has the same Eso cost or less.

Is this true?
If so, how can I ask a GM to do me this massive favor? Do I need to make a support ticket?

I'd really appreciate some help, since I don't want to waste another 3 weeks because my habbits got the better of me for a second.

Make a ticket. The best you can hope for is a limited item restoration. It's a once per account restoration of item.

So everyone basically has a "Get Out of Jail" ticket per account in case they make a big mistake like I did?
If it's like that, then it's very nice.

Do you know how the procedure works? Are they gonna log in in my account and swap the items or is it gonna be a trade of some sorts?

Nevermind, I found out about the Support Desk function in game after looking for more information and I submitted a request.
