    "Complex" game mechanics

Just want to say, I was a tad bit disappointed that the only thing they could think of to add "complexity" to gameplay were "timers" - i.e. "Use this buff while it's still up!!!".

FFXIV is still my main MMO - although I am starting to waver; there isn't much to do at the moment and my Carbuncle is still missing after all those levels.

I have been killing time with F2P MMOs like Trove (it's Minecraft online so I figure I would try it out) played both of its pet classes to high levels.
    Dragonlyte -
    Sort of a pet class.

You have a dragon whelp hovering beside you 24/7 (and takes no damage), it charges up when you attack, when it's ready (you will see it get fat and glowing with flames; which is somewhat hilarious in itself), you can use your secondary attack which commanding it to shoot a fireball (your only truly long ranged attack).

Yes, mechanically it isn't deep, but I liked the interaction.
    Tomb Raiser -
    It's pretty much a necromancer.

You can summon up to 6 skeletons that tank for you, each consuming one Restless Soul which you have 3 at a time and you get one every 8 secs, the HP of the skeletons slowly drops over time such that without any interaction (taking damage or healing) they die in 10 secs.

However you can heal them with your main attack, it doesn't heal much, but you can keep them alive if you channel it at them. There is also a "on CD" attack that heals those within a radius for a ton.

The cute part is, you can sacrifice them to create a big Goliath skeleton (the more active small ones you sac, the bigger and stronger the big one will be) that is much more durable and hits very hard - but it can't be healed though.

I find this interesting gameplay mechanics-wise. If you want to summon the big one, you have to keep the small ones alive. You should also know when to cut your losses - i.e. summon a less optimal big one because you know you can't keep the small ones up long enough to summon more to boost your active entourage.
Nice that they separate the 2 types of pets too
    • the always by your side companion that keeps you company, helps you out and is invulnerable so you won't feel like crap when your pet dies
    • the expendable minions that you send to their doom like an evil overlord

These are mechanics SE should consider (or variations of) next expansion - we all know you would have better luck getting blood from stone than getting SE to change anything mid-expansion . At least they are more interesting that, "Quick! Before the timer runs out!!!".

Talking about pets, I do wish SE would do 2 things I love in WoW.

    1. When you mount up, pet goes on auto-passive. No more riding through something and there goes your pet, constantly have to re-summon when you get to your destination. Or, remember to change pet stances each time you mount up and dismount. But, they removed requiring to dismount when entering a city, so, remove the need to pet stance dance.

    2. When the pet is not tanking, it auto-positions to the rear. Especially SMN solo with Chocobo. Ok Titan, I need to park you over there, because my bird is too stupid to move. Ok, now keep attacking. Good boy.

MANTASTIC: I got 1017 problems, but playing FFXIV ain't one.

Llyren: Lala Tanks hit point density levels attract small planets

People struggle enough with "simple" mechanics already, I can only imagine the hilarity that would ensue if they added actually complex classes. I highly doubt a necromancer class would be a thing either, the next pet class we are likely to see is Beastmaster

    1. Don't get it why this still isn't fixed. I had to create a mount macro with /pac Steady. /smh
    2. Another strange thing SE didn't implement as it would help Ifrit and Chocobos to not get cleaved to death by bosses. That reminds me, they should really clone WoW's glyphed Water Elemental "follow me at my side at all times" behavior for range pets.

Not really pinning for a necromancer class.

Just ... as I said, all SMN (and I think BLM) got for "mechanics" this expansion are stupid buffs on a timer - i.e. Aethertrail and Dreadwyrm Trance (and Enochainsomething). All those do is make you rush to squeeze in as many attacks as possible or stress you out about using a specific attack within the time limit. Mechanically about as interesting as DDR.

    "Enochainsomething"

You've definitely convinced me that you have appropriate experience to form these decisions and understand what you're talking about.

I'm not good with names. If you can't see pass spelling in an argument ... I'm sure you must make many "good" decision in life.

I'm not having an issue with heat atm. But also... wouldn't that apply more to you? You kinda flipped out first. You were the first one to make this particularly personal (and are continuing to do so in this post).

My first comment was rudely sarcastic at worst, but it was still relevant. You're comment was just personal attacks, much like this one.

Your comment implied that my initial argument was unsound just because I can't be bother to look up the spelling of some obscure word. You are implying I'm not competent to comment on the issue because of my spelling. Don't pretend it wasn't a "personal attack".

My response was relevant too. If you judge an argument by the spelling of its text ... you aren't very good at judging the validity of arguments in general.

Again, don't start derailing my thread if you don't want to get attacked.

If you have nothing on topic to say other than nitpicking spelling or minor digressions (minecraft online whatever man), don't post. You are wasting my time.

    PS:

I'm getting bloody sick of asshats derailing every damn thread I start to discuss things - just because they disagree or see it as criticism of their beloved SE. They will nitpick some minor side point that isn't particularly important (or worse spelling) then run with it until the thread is full of unrelated rubbish.
