If it take a person 2-3month to get 1-50 then it good enough that what he want to start with.SE will over do it, then you can all moan its taking to long to level again..

All they need to do is put a penalty on for a player X ranks above claiming to say from 5% at 9 ranks above to 90% penalty at 20/5ranks above?
An make it so players ahve to do an action against a mob to get Exp. (one mob not all in the chain)
It wont stop power levelling in some ways, but it will def stop the afk to a large degree, and still let people help each other out. (and PL slower but still affective for those who hate mob grinding tedium)

Yoshi-P said a casual player should get to 50 at 2-3 months. But in no way put a limit on how fast those hardcore players should level up. I don't think pl'ing is an issue of how fast people level up at all, I mean sure its a problem, but think about this there's like 5 things of content to do at that level, those people who got pl'd to 50 are basically going to quit. I personally know people right now that were pl'd 1-40, then still tried to multi-box the rest. That person will never be a legit player, I don't even know why they rush levels to play content they can't play because they're EFFING DUMB AS SH!$, true story. The person I knew who pl'd there character had no clue they should do leves or that was a leveling method. They didn't know what guildmarks were. Like seriously who wants to play with a level 50 conj that doesn't have fast cast and some defense while casting and maybe transcendence, and thm's too think about it. I don't play melée so I wouldn't know what makes you gimp there, but I'm sure you their just as gimped.
I don't believe that pl'ing is hurting the game, but what I do believe is that its hurting the community. You could say the game is affected by the community, and yes that's true, but that's a 2nd causal link you have to make after the pling issue. No one reallys like pl'ing unless their doing it. So we just need to tell the devs "we don't like pling, on a personal level it makes us sick to play with people who have been pl'd they are _____ and the practice is ______" instead people are like "oh pl'ing effects this and that and this and those and these" and no it really doesn't. We just don't like it, and that is it. There is nothing wrong with not liking it, we should just stop covering it up with logical fallacies.
I think Yoshi already addressed that in one of his previous letters. They are providing content like raids for parties, and content like leve for soloists. I think we see this in the new GC leve only being solo content, and the strongholds being tailored for parties.Yoshi's idea is noble, and very much like a child's naivety in execution. However, this game is at a crossed purpose of catering to soloists and those who wish to group. This cannot be sustained. You either go WoW's way of solo content and grouping up for dungeons, or you go XI's way of "group or die" (barring some exceptions). There is simply no other way to go about it in a way that is functional, and MMO's are about how well they function when played as functional systems beget a more consistent entertainment value.
The main problem here is the pl'd people never want to stop being pl'd and they instead become more greedy and more people say "eff it, i'll just pl some levels too" and then they'll blame it on being "casual". Its sad to think that those of us given the opportunity to pl levels didn't are few, but then again, I don't know if I count, I have a 50thm, and a 34 conj i want to level up, but I'm not pling it cause I need guildmarks for it and I don't want to be gimp that way. There I guess either needs to be a change in how ranking between mob and pc is calculated, or they need to make grinding the hard way attractive for people. Or just eff those spammer people and make game ridick hard. Idk i want last one :/
Ahahahah, yeah. I think I have about 1,000,000 crab kills and another 500,000 Colibri kills from XI.
But to stay on track with the thread, I also have countless hours of XI PLing, granted that wasn't insane like this is. BUT! How many people saw SMN burns??? I think PLing can stay but needs to be tuned. It should be pretty simple to max the link/chain bonus or even EXP obtained within a set period of time. Say a cap of 10k xp per 15 min or something to that nature.
This thread has a dev response... but I refuse to go over 99 pages of post... can someone please be kind enough to point me towards the rigth direction and find the dev response in this post o.o!
