You can be as facetious and pedantic about the word as you want, but the matter still stands that those who can, will, and those who cry, will.

While I was living in Indiana for a year, my stepmother would use the word "facetious" a hell of a lot. And usually, she would excuse herself as, "not being facetious or anything, but," before saying what she will next. I think she used it as a genuine attempt to let you know that what she was about to say wasn't intended to insult you or make light of you at your expense.

Now, in what Travesty has said, I don't think he was trying to be facetious. Nor do I think he was at all.
