I did read the last couple of pages, but reading the whole thing will not do.

Sorry, I just read the updated OP, wasn't aware it had been. :S

Still, I can't agree with OP yet. The problem is not power level as OP describes it, it's the players themselves (some, not all). I do enjoy the quests and story line very much, it is far from being in the "backseat" for me. The same goes for power level over good experience parties, power level is boring while good experience parties are fun and bring in enough experience per hour to be competitive to power level.

As for the "low demand" on mid-rank gear (low-level is good too), I have no clue what you are talking about, it's the thing that sells the most on my retainer. As for mid-rank equipment to have triple or quadruple pricing, there always have been people out of their mind with incredibly high prices, but other input a good price and it sells. Result, only the high priced items are left making people think everything is over priced (good thing the purchase history is coming!).

Now, level 40+ players that are clueless about their roles, how is that new? I did had to solo a great deal of my levels on archer when I didn't had much time to play, yes I did missed on that experience of learning my role. But I did learn how to be self sufficient with my class. Know what is best? Players can learn their role even at level 40+ and it doesn't take that much time either.

That is why I do not understand how power level affects everyone as bad as you people say it does.
Yes, it affects some players, but it's far from game breaking as far as I have experienced.

I am reading what you guys are talking about and can't apply it to what I experienced, how can I agree with you then?
I'm not trying to start a war or anything, the point is that it doesn't affect everyone in the same way you guys are experiencing it. Yes, it is bad it's not doing good for you, but it's not something that is afflicting every single player. If so, how can you be sure it even is the majority of players?

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.

Lol I knew posting that would get attention and it did exactly as I intended.

The funny point is, we listed facts as well but Sephrick you ignored them to get your point across.

No one is forcing our "views" down anyones throat. But I do feel like PL is being forced down mine. The majority of people are doing it now from what I've seen just on my server, so I almost feel obligated to do it since I can't find a group to actually party with.

Hopefully the player poll clears this up.

Agreed, it's like there's a god damn elephant in the room and a bunch of people are asking me, "What elephant?"

It really is a shame that at no point during the 1.20 patch notes do they address this seriously game breaking problem.

Yoshida said he wanted PLing to be in the game and he doesn't want to raise level cap because he doesn't want there to be a massive gap in player levels when PS3 releases. I don't see how having every single player have every class at level 50 when the PS3 players join at level 1 will attain this goal..

Ladies, ladies ... your both beautiful.

Let's try and break all these factions down and reset the tone, shall we?

Faction #1: Being allowed to gain XP while being AFK is inherently wrong and has no place in an MMORPG. Anyone who does it is a Cheater.

Faction #2: How a player gains XP is his own business and as long as it doesn't subtract XP from any other player, it doesn't hurt anyone and should not be restricted. Anyone who wants to restrict it is a Fascist.

Faction #3: Powerleveling negatively affects all the players in the community by completely throwing off the balance of available camps and diminishing the pool of potential party members. Anyone who doesn't see that is Selfish.

Faction #4: Full Party XP should be the most effective way to gain XP in a given time. All other methods should gain less XP in the same amount of time. Anyone who can't understand that is Dumb.

Faction #5: Level Syncing should be implemented because it is the best way to accomplish the inherent goals of powerleveling, without the negative connotations of actually powerleveling. Anyone who doesn't want that is Narrow-minded.

Faction #6: Powerleveling really isn't about gaining XP. It's about being able to play with whoever you want whenever you want. Anyone who is against that is Anti-social.

Faction #7: Powerleveling is about gaining the maximum amount of XP in the least amount of time in order to reach endgame as fast as possible ... which is the entire point of playing an RPG in the first place. Anyone who thinks otherwise is Naive.

I personally fall squarely in Faction #5, though I like to flirt with Faction #4. Unfortunately, that makes me think that everyone else is either narrow-minded or dumb. I realize this bias, but I'm willing to put that personal opinion aside.

There is a lot of opinion rolling in this thread as fact, and more than a few points that are posing as valid when they are less so.

Anyway, I see the reasons for and against, and appreciate all the points of view. What I'm hoping is that by showing all of the points of view we can debate with a little less heat, and a little more light.

I really like how you broke that down. Can I agree with #2, #5, #6, somewhat #1, somewhat #4 and disagree completely with #7. I'm skeptic about #3 yet.

    Rest of post shown above

Finally some unbias logic that doesn't resort to "My opinion is fact."

The amount of players on the server effects everyone.

It affects all playeres in direct ways, such as finding a party, and also in indirect ways, such as populating the Wards with items you want, or people to buy the items you want to sell. Eventually, the amount of players paying subscriptions will drastically affect the longevity of the game and the resources available for updates and expansions.

So if you think other people's gripes don't effect you, you are simply wrong. This particular issue causes people to not play FFXIV. That fact is not at all debatable.

Rampant PL'ng (regular PL and AFK PL) is already affecting the overall population of the game. We can debate the degree to which this is true, but not the fact that it is true.

This argument that "PL does not affect me" has no realistic basis.

Because they'll be able hit 50 themselves in a week or less? Not saying I agree with it.
