    Midgardsorm versus the Garleans

Unsure if this has been discussed elsewhere, or was addressed back in 1.0:

Did we ever get a solid reason for why the dragons, led by Midgardsormr felt so inclined to gather en masse and erradicate the original Garlean invasion way back when? Didn't seem to be an "accidental" encounter. And clearly, Midgardsormr wasn't killed - just taking a break!

    Thanks,

    Thanks,
Sounded a lot like Mor Dhona was dragon territory, and the Garleans were flying a massive army over it.

Of course, Middie being who he is, might've known more than what is shown.

    Not really.

My best guess is that Hydaelyn told him to do it.

Actually Midgardsorm is also know as the keeper of the lake as well the king of kings. Mor Dhona Or to be more specific Silver Tear lake had much more lush vegetation (green trees lots of trees) until it was the waste land we see today. The Garlens knew that Silver Tear was the center point of Athear in Eorzea this is actually where the Alagans sealed pretty much every primal that was summand by a beast tribe or any one for that matter to stop them from coming back. Midgardsorm Was Kent to protect this place so that they wouldn't be freed.

And about the dragons while its likely that it was their territory its much more likely they heared Midgardsorms call and joins un the defense since smaller dragons are under control of the bigger ones.

Midgardsormr, tasked by The Twelve, supposedly, was the guardian, or keeper, of Silvertear Falls, the source of all aether in this realm.

Now, when water came into being, so too did the great dragon Midgardsormr. Brother Time and Sister Fate, fearing the Falls might fall into the hands of evil, ordered Midgardsormr their protector and warden. Much later, with the arrival of man, would Midgardsormr be worshipped as the guardian deity of Silvertear Falls."
In 1562, 6th Astral Era, the Garlean Empire, having only just conquered Ala Mhigo 5 years prior, set it's sights on Mor Dhona. It is assumed that their motivation was either to excavate Allagan artifacts and salvage technology from the site of Syrcus Tower, tap into the aetherial fount itself, or both. So, naturally, sensing the coming threat to his charge, Midgardsormr sounded the song, calling the nearby Dravanian horde to aid in Silvertear's defense. And the Battle of Silvertear Skies was begun...

Combine Derek and Havik and you've got most of what we know so far. Legend says Midgardsormr was created by the Twelve and he came into existence at the same time as water and magick (Minfilia suggests maybe Hydaelyn, instead, was responsible). When the Garleans attacked Mor Dhona in 1562, he awoke from centuries of slumber beneath the lake and led a host of dragons against them - all but confirming the existence of the Gods for many onlookers.

The reason we've been given for Gaius moving on Mor Dhona, so far, is that he knew about the concentration of aether there (having put together the truth from the various legends) and thought that taking it would prevent the beast tribes from utilizing it to summon primals (the Garleans had faced primals in their subjugation of Othard and did not want to again). Instead, everyone failed in their mission. Midgardsormr died, the aetherial seal shattered, the beast tribes began to summon primals, Mor Dhona was transformed into a wasteland, Agrius was lost, and the Garleans had to flee back to Ala Mhigo unable to do anything for ten years.

Clarification on these assumptions by Eorzeans, and more about what Midgardsormr was actually protecting, will be revealed later in the 3.0 to 4.0 cycle.

For starters Mor Dhona means ... something ... in the dragon language. That's probably not a coincidence.

And something going that wrong for all sides of two forces pit against one another? In a way that leads to primals? Maaaybe some Ascian involvement.

    Maybe.

Maybe Hydaelyn told him to do it, because the explosion gave specific people the Echo. Random event, or planned in advance to combat the Ascian threat... Please look forward to it!

i don't remember anything about what gave the Echo to Minfilia and the other members of the Path, i only remember that the 1.x way of getting the echo, was when the skies enclouded and a meteor shower came from it, then you would be directed to the Path.

We know that , in that specific event many people recieved the echo but, do we know how it was before it? i heard that 1.x begining in uldah can answer it or so, because of minfilia story, i can't really tell, anyone got any specific info on that?

    Ok so I'm home now.

If your starter city is Ul'dah the story line will take you to where you have to go to the Ossuary to meet up with Thancred. When you get there you run into Minfillia (who you don't know who she is at the time because you've never seen her around). You ask her if she's seen Thancred and she is pretty much surprised because of Thancred coming (he was declared a Pariah for the shit he did about ten years ago). That triggers you to go into the Echo. When you're in the Echo, Thancred comes running towards you and says you're just the person he's looking for. (Which has always caused me to doubt people saying that we were going into people's memories and not the actual past with the echo because he specifically uses your name). You and he go into where Warburton is getting prepped for burial. As you go further in you see elezen dude (I will the spelling of his name if I even tried to type it out) dead on the ground as you look around you find Ascillia scared crapless in between two (for lack of better terms) caskets. As you bend down to speak to her she holds out her hand with a jewel in it and that triggers you going into another Echo (Echo within an Echo). What you see is ELezen dude talking to her and telling her that they'll bring her father back to life then it cuts to someone walking up behind them and stabbing elezen in the back. (Such a stupid backstabber.... literrally) You never see the face just the feet and it's some well armored. As soon as the echo is over you and Thancred get knocked back and he looks at you saying pretty much, "You did that?!" then gets an idea and runs out side seeing the Meteor Shower occur and then says , "It's begun". He runs back in side and tells you that you all should leave and as you three are running out you start passing out. When the screen goes blank you see in text someone saying that someone else knows how elezen dude has died.

how it plays for the other city states i have no idea since i never played those others because of instantly falling in love with uldah on release (there was only so many times I could stand Limsa during the beta even if was a sight for sore eyes....) correction it was instant intrigue of the uldah storyline and immense hatred of thancred at the time that caused me to stay in uldah and even choose the immortal flames in hopes that he would die....

Actually, you were already in an echo if seeing Y'shtola, Yda, Papalymo, or Thancred, as they are only seen within visions of 1562 until the final main scenario quest, Futures Perfect.

At the very end of the city-state introduction quests, just before the starshower appeared, you somehow brought the Scion with you, into an echo vision within the already occuring echo vision. It is only when you returned from the echo within the echo (echo-ception) that your Scion noticed something amiss, declared that you had the Echo and stated something along the lines of 'It's begun...,' 'It's too late,' or 'So this is the danger...'. It is then that your attention is turned to the swelling clouds soon to loose a volly of flaming orbs.

Now, it is strongly suggested that the vision of the meteor shower marked the awaking of the adventurer (and many others) to the echo, but that's not to say that the echo didn't also sound when the seal within Silvertear Falls was broken by the Agrius. It's entirely possible that the two events were linked, as they took place in the same year.

Although Minfilia heard the Echo much earlier than the adventurer, it's likely that the starshower played a part in her awakening as well, just at a different period in time.

So, back to Midgardsormr, we have on one hand that he "came into being" with the appearance of Silvertear Falls, and his own story in which he came to this world bearing his seven yet-to-be-born children. So, which is true? Well, perhaps they both are. Perhaps Midgardsormr truly is from another world or dimention, and was beckoned by the wellspring of aether that is Silvertear, or perhaps even Hydaelyn herself...

There are far more gaps to fill than there are pieces to fill them at current, but it seems we'll finally get some answers on all of this throughout Heavensward.
