SE, fix this rediculous character limit to posting on these forums!

Really, the character limit to posts here is absurd. Everyone knows that you can get around this limit by editing your post. What is the value of having a time sink mini-game to the forums?

Is the restriction the same on the Japanese forums? I tried it out and it also had a limit of 1000 characters but I don't know if that is tied to the forum or to the language selected (which was still English for me).

If they also are limited to 1000 characters, the restriction is not equal between Japanese and western language forums. A character count of 1000 characters amounts to about 500 words in Japanese, 200 words in English (166 in German). Using a character limit results in Japanese players having twice as much space in forums before forced into the mini game of editing.

Indeed. It's rather ironic that English is so thoroughly misspelled by the most populous nation that uses (abuses?) the English language as it's official language...One might say, in all good humour, that they should perhaps do everyone the good favour of learning to speak and spell English correctly. Assuming of course that they are going to continually claim that English is their official language. It's such a controversy, although one would hope that they would also learn to pronounce words such as controversy correctly. But alas that is unlikely, it sometimes seems as though the Americans believe that *they* invented the English language, rather than the English themselves.

Hmm don't know many people that think this. America also has no "official" language, so American English could be considered a language in it self, depending on where you live the same phrases can mean different things also spoken and spelled different. We are all mutts just a mash up of just about everything thats out there. We rid ourselves of the Kings English back in 1776.

Er. . . the US doesn't have an official language. Some states like Mex Mexico do (English and Spanish) but there is no official language at the federal level.

American English is based on an older form of English so I'd say all those people on the other side of the pond use far too much slang. :P

Teasing aside, I'd love for them to get rid of the 1000 character limit. The posts per day restriction is fine.
