    WHAT HAPPENED TO STR

as the title says, i tried to see how much the str had to do with attack, like if 2 str =1 attack or viceversa, but when i unequipped pieces or armor didnt lost any atack.

Is str, dex vit and other stats broken? i hope i get a direct answer from reps this time.

well i havent heard anything about that from the dev team, if i unequip pieces of gear that grant only str or dex i dont see any change at all, from vit i only see hp bonus, i havent seen any improvement to my real attack damage when i equip more strength so in short, are the attributes still broken?

I know that if i equip attack bonus and accuracy bonus those work,

They're not broken, and to my knowledge FFXI's str was 2 = 1 attack, XIV has significantly higher stats which also means significantly higher stat modifying.

From my understanding, higher STR reduces the variance in your attacks, so instead of doing between 100 and 200 damage, high STR makes it so you do between 150 and 200 instead. This is all on hearsay though.

My current suspicion is that with the current system, STR does not actually directly modify attack, it folds into the damage calculations somewhere else.

Which, yes, makes it harder to see how much of a difference your gear makes, and I haven't done anything -remotely- close to actual testing on this hypothesis, so take it with a grain of salt.

I've definitely noticed loading up on STR making a difference in my damage numbers without modifying my Attack score, though, for what it's worth.

Anyone have any hard data here or number crunching that's already been performed?

thats what im talking about, yeah in FFXI you had that rule of 2 STR= 1 Attack power, but i dont see any difference if i equip more STR or not, so thats why im asking for an answer from the dev team, if i take for strength out i would like to see that i miss 2 attack power from my stats.

And i dont really see any difference in my damage right now,

They said that in 1.19 stats would matter a lot more but i see the same pattern as before. I don't see how it matters more. Maybe they changed how it is calculated behind the scenes but the result is the same. I want stats to be a lot more obvious. Whenever i add +10 Str to my character i want to see it reflect in the damage i do so that i clearly know where i'm going and what stats i'm looking for when buying new gear.

STR currently reflects consistence on the numbers you get while attack power raises your peak damage i.e. raising your max damage you can do. To sum that up, atk > str if you're trying to boost your top end damage until a certain point, str just makes your top end more consistent and less random. I think I explained that right...

This actually helps out a lot more than people might realize too. A balance of STR and attack for potency and consistency seems to be key (same with INT and magic attack). If you hit for 1000 1/5 of the time and 700 the rest of the time, someone who is hitting for 850 every hit is doing a lot more damage than you.
