I'm not expecting it anytime this expansion to be frank. This is an awful lot to ask programming-wise, to be honest. Firstly, your gear sets aren't stored server-side, they're stored locally on your PC so the game would have to determine which of your gear sets is your gatherer/crafter and then switch to them, activate the skills you want it to activate and start up the gathering/crafting interface. Next, you want it to remember all of the specifics of your state before it made the switch? We don't even keep our buffs when switching between classes normally as it stands, you're asking it (once again) to know which gear set you were on, remember all of the stats you had plus all of the effects you were under and which pet you have out?
...
Next expansion though ... something they should consider.
Well, sorry to say but I don't think it's something we'll ever see. As per the line that was edited out... that's not how the gathering and crafting systems were designed to work.

Oh please, it's not hard to clone the equipment information to the servers ...
You act like it's set in stone. It's software for heaven sakes. It's "soft".
There is a reason they don't have the gear sets saved to the server, and it's the same reason we have the limited inventory space we do. Could they change it? Yes. It's not set in stone, I know that... I reiterate... I am a programmer. The point is, they won't do it because it's not worth it for them to do it nor is it in line with their philosophy of how gathering and crafting is intended to work.
