Crafting and gathering without changing Jobs

Since 90% of the DoH & DoL skills can only be used while crafting and gathering respectively ...

Would be nice if the gathering node detection skills were automatic for all classes.

You go up to a node as a DoW/M, interact with it and the game automatically loads your gathering gear, engage stealth and switch your hotbars to MIN/BOT/FSH.

Once gathering has ended for whatever reason, you automatically switch back to DoW/M with all your buffs/HP/MP/pets as they were before you interacted with the node.

Same thing with DoH classes, the moment you click Synthesis ...

You can still which to DoL and DoH classes manually of course like you do now.

This is an awful lot to ask programming-wise, to be honest. Firstly, your gear sets aren't stored server-side, they're stored locally on your PC so the game would have to determine which of your gear sets is your gatherer/crafter and then switch to them, activate the skills you want it to activate and start up the gathering/crafting interface. Next, you want it to remember all of the specifics of your state before it made the switch? We don't even keep our buffs when switching between classes normally as it stands, you're asking it (once again) to know which gear set you were on, remember all of the stats you had plus all of the effects you were under and which pet you have out? Personally, as a programmer myself, this isn't something I would even consider as an option given the way the client currently handles this information and would be an over-all memory intensive burden which wouldn't fit in with the way the gathering/crafting system is designed to work anyway.

I'm not expecting it anytime this expansion to be frank.

Next expansion though ... something they should consider.

Well, sorry to say but I don't think it's something we'll ever see. As per the line that was edited out... that's not how the gathering and crafting systems were designed to work.

Oh please, it's not hard to clone the equipment information to the servers ...

You act like it's set in stone. It's software for heaven sakes. It's "soft".

I think they should've just did crafting/gathering like every other MMO's. When you're in the field leveling a class, say blm for example, and you're a miner you can mine while you're in the field. I never understood the archaic design SE took toward making each crafting skill an individual job.

There's a lot of things that I question in design (they seem a few years behind most others), the housing debacle is another one, I never understood why they'd limit housing like they did. Or the inability to whisper to people in dungeons, the ability to see a TP bar in groups (which they're finally adding...) etc..

There is a reason they don't have the gear sets saved to the server, and it's the same reason we have the limited inventory space we do. Could they change it? Yes. It's not set in stone, I know that... I reiterate... I am a programmer. The point is, they won't do it because it's not worth it for them to do it nor is it in line with their philosophy of how gathering and crafting is intended to work.

    Just use macros and gearsets...

Honestly this sounds like one of those things that could benefit from that fabled add-on support Squeenix said they'd think about. Then you could program this and release it as an add-on.

Yoshi-P has stated several times that their design philosophy for XIV wasn't not to make just 'another MMO'. They want XIV to have its own feel and its own persona, and not be just another WoW clone. Some of their decisions to do this are better than others, and there are certain things that are obvious issues that need to be addressed... most of which they have stated they are addressing, but they have other priorities they want to deal with first.

They made crafting and gathering separate entities from the battle classes to give them their own 'life', as it were. Where crafting and gathering are things you can approach as your main objective rather than just something laid on top of the combat. It gives them a flexibility with the system to implement unique things that you wouldn't be able to do if they were just some sub-set of your character as a whole.

I kind of agree with the housing issue, I think they should have set aside a server to handle housing but it's also tied into the same issue as inventory space, where the server saves data twice as often as other MMOs and just adding more housing would only increase server load and impact stability. The whisper thing was specifically implemented to disallow RMT to whisper you while in duties since that would be a major distraction, especially since you can't blacklist them while in the duty (which is tied to the way the instance system actually works due to them being on a completely different server than your actual world).

It feels like a rather large feat for such a small payout. Especially when gear sets already exist and the difference between the current system and your proposed system is... one click on a gear set.
