European Datacenter: will you transfer from a NA/JP server to an EU server?

If you transfer to a EU server, you may end up risking going into dungeons with people who can't communicate in English. From my experience in other MMO's, European players tend to communicate in their own language rather than English (Germans, French, Spanish etc.) but will that be the case for FFXIV?

FFXIV doesnt really have that. German and French have their own language option you can enable/disable, so its very unlikely youll see someone writing in either unless you choose to enable it.

French and Germans needs their own data-center or atleast own server like they usually have in other online games, they rarely can communicate with rest of europe so its best for everyone

Contrast to popular belief, the majority of the EU doesnt actually speak English natively.
Incidentally, I've known like absolutely no german or natively german speaking people, that didnt also speak and write English excellently.


Plus one of the best features of this game is it's very useful [auto-translate] system.

Moogle is prime example as english speaking players are rather minority in here, thats why you can forget that whole PF even exsist unless you like to have groups where you dont understand a shit and you like wipefests... now if you could take more than few mil gil when trasfering and FC house most non-french peeps would instanty trasfer somewhere else.

You should do your research before joining a known "unofficial FR/DE server", especially if you can't understand anything from these languages.

Aye this is true and maybe i worded it badly after seeing so many hate replies, its just that i have personally too many bad experiences when you see "salut" in party chat. But still why French and Germans dont have their own servers like in most games? isnt it a good thing to have server that has peoples from your own country? i would like to have one for myself tbh.

But im going to be honest and say that yes i am a racist when it comes to french players, sure there are good ones but most of them just plain suck and because of this i chose to not group with them at all via PF(its still issue in DF but i stopped doing those aswell). Germans are usually pretty cool tho even if they dont always speak english at all, atleast most of them knows how combo system works in this game.

At the beginnig there was healthy mix of peoples from diffirent countries in moogle but as time went on many non-fr players moved to phoenix or other servers while french players stayed here, so it was not unofficial fr server at first but it eventually became one. Now if we could take all gil and FC house when trasferring a server me and many others would instanty leave this place, but atm its not possible and because of this we are stuck in here

Well no, I'm happy to play with people from different countries. I don't know if you come from Europe or not but people have been working hard here to try to create an European Union, so have country oriented servers would be a regression from my point of view ^^

Sadly i do and im 100% against EU and it should have never been created, it has fuckedup so many countries thats its not even funny anymore. And what comes to country-racism im sorry i dont want to be but it just happened due so many bad apples(i have some serious trust issues nowdays), you sound like a nice person and i would like to see more fr peeps like you ^^

Not really too phsyched about fragmenting the game community again.

You need to see it from our perspective, gameplay experience or community. Gameplay affects every player each time we log in, community is strictly on per interaction. Gameplay is the more important one as it your first and ever lasting impression of the game above all else, I have had a few friends not touch this game due to where the servers are based even for EU side of things.

Lets not get into a race or xenophobic war ^.^; I'm sure thats not the intention of OP, SE, or any poster here.
Having servers moved over and one or two recognised as the german or the french servers is a good thing. It would suck if someone who spoke very little english couldnt find a FC or Static because people of their country/language are too spread-out across other servers.
Unfortunately when I joined during 2.0 beta/EA there were no EU servers available because of demand. Although I had a 1.0 char on Ragnarok I needed to recreate a character to play with friends who were starting as their first MMO. There has been no difference between NA and EU servers up until now, as I have F (as well as E) checked in my duty finder so occasionally get canadians or french who were in the same situation at start of 2.0. Its only with the release of Alex Savage that I require a Static within my own timezone, and the server migration is another reason to shift across to an EU server.

Good to see you can't respond to reasoned discussion without insults & insinuations. By the way, I have *never* had a ping over 100ms. Plenty of people in the US have far higher pings & longer traceroutes than I do from the UK. I chose my server based on what was best available at the time. Ironically the EU servers still give a slightly higher ping (by around 10%).

By your reasoning those in the Middle East, & other areas not specifically named "in the game" shouldn't be playing because they ignore what the game says.

I also assume you have a 1ms gaming monitor without an inbuilt scaler to ensure you reduce your 'lag'. After all, that scaler will introduce at least 16ms at playable FPS. Stop waving your epeen. Reduced lag doesn't make up for poor game play.

1) I have not insulted anyone, I am just making small fun out of your "cleverness" in "screwing with the system".
2) Yes, UK has somewhat decent ping to Montreal, but UK is a very tiny part of EU, the rest has above 100. I for example have ~140 when not using WTFast, and 100-105 with WTFast. Oh and guess what? It's NOTICEABLE!
3) As for your ME/OCE/etc. argument, no... Just no... You are supposed to pick the Server that is for people closest to you, so Middle East should pick EU. OCE should technically pick JP, if they can deal with the language, and so on.
4) It's NOT a 1ms difference! It's around 100 ms difference the average player from EU is looking at! That's NOT about epeen, that's an actual detriment. Also no, it's not about poor gameplay! When you get hit by AoE that finished casting AFTER you were already out of the indicator, it has NOTHING to do with poor gameplay.

This happened to me on Titan back when I was doing it for the main story. Cast was still going when I was out of the AoE marker and bam I flew off like a right noob. That was the moment I decided I'm not going to raid in this game. I can deal with hard mechanics, complicated rotations and gear checks too, but I refuse to be frustrated because of something that's out of my control. Luckily there's lots to do here besides raiding.
