European Datacenter: will you transfer from a NA/JP server to an EU server?

Actually the very game disagrees with you.
If you check the data center Chaos it saids "for the residents of Europe".

Except for the fact that it is based in North America. Anyone who checked before selecting their data centre realised that it made no difference to EU players which server set you chose. Many chose NA specifically so they had fewer language issues to deal with.

A lot of people who didn't know that they were in the same place have since transferred from Chaos to NA once they discovered it was the same place & that they wouldn't have to deal with as many instances of people who don't speak a language selecting it & having to suffer confusion that arises.

I play on Phoenix already so there's no dilemma for me but I would like to point out that, on this server at least, there is no issue with people speaking languages other than English. The most I ever see is FC recruitment shouts in French. Chat is generally always in English and those that speak other languages pretty much always use the auto-translate so there's no issue at all.

Just moved to Phoenix a month ago an it's an awesome server,loads of really great an friendly people play here.

Like Alberel said the only time i see other languages used is for the odd Fc recruitment shout,dungeons an other content people talk in english most of the time.

And by "screwing the system over" they now have bonds in NA, and will have to keep suffering 100+ms ping, if not more since this split might allow SE to move NA to Central or West coast (the latter would benefit OCE players).
So yeah, GOOD JOB ignoring what the game tells you.

And your "language issues" point is rather moot, the only place where this can happen (and only when people "cheat" the system by picking languages they don't speak) is DF, and lets face it, 90+% of all DF runs boil down to: "Hi." "Sorry" "GG bye"... Only when the player that doesn't understand the language screws up extremely hard, a real problem emerges, but that one is easily solved by the Votekick function.





I play on Phoenix, I have language issues in like 1 out of 100 DF runs at most, and I am EXTREMELY looking forward to the move to EU, the difference between 130+ms and ~30ms is like hell and heaven, it gives you the possibility to make close calls, it gives you better control over your rotations, it makes dodging mechanics a LOT easier, etc... But hey, keep telling yourselves that a 100ms is not a big difference.

So I figured maybe it can be time to level up NIN a bit more, since it wont suffer so much once the transfer occurs. I even stopped playing MNK because the skill speed was outpacing the ping (despite SE saying you can play with 200ping) and that used to be my favourite job.

I am NIN and had no issues with that...
Huton at start and rotation for keeping it up... using other ninjutsus for refreshing TP so it is welcome that it takes more then 2 sec to cast it... and I never fall down as DPS.

BTW: Is there anywhere a link with more infos? A friend of me told me that the move will take up to 5 days of server down which is huge and a waste of paying time... I mean I would not start a new char on a different location just for 5 days.... I do not want to flame but I either do not like others to flame about this. So I was wondering if SE was thinking about that.

Good to see you can't respond to reasoned discussion without insults & insinuations. By the way, I have *never* had a ping over 100ms. Plenty of people in the US have far higher pings & longer traceroutes than I do from the UK. I chose my server based on what was best available at the time. Ironically the EU servers still give a slightly higher ping (by around 10%).

By your reasoning those in the Middle East, & other areas not specifically named "in the game" shouldn't be playing because they ignore what the game says.

I also assume you have a 1ms gaming monitor without an inbuilt scaler to ensure you reduce your 'lag'. After all, that scaler will introduce at least 16ms at playable FPS. Stop waving your epeen. Reduced lag doesn't make up for poor game play.

You know that germans have it in school 6 years? Even if you have a bad mark you can talk in MMO....
So everyone below 35 should be able to communicate as I said: We have it in school... and as long as nobody is bubbling around their social life in dungeons everyone can learn the handfull of needed words even without education...

Or you could just make your own English speaking group in PF? Kick anyone who doesn't respect the language setting in the PF options, just like you would normally kick anyone who doesn't listen to tactics. Duty finder would still match people in the Chaos data center if they had their own server, so it wouldn't change anything. There are not enough German and French people to have their own data center.

"Cozy corner somewhere" sounds really demeaning to be honest, and the claim that they can rarely communicate in English is simply false. Many enjoy meeting new people from all around the world and, in the next moment, being able to play with their own countrymen. Not being locked to a server based on their country is essential for that kind of game experience. I am curious. Do you also think oceanic/asian players shouldn't play on JP servers if they don't speak Japanese, or do you only wish to segregate non-English speakers?

On one hand I am glad most can use auto-translate, but on the other hand you can't expect to run Savage with that type of communication.

Of course not. People tend to play the hardest content with people they know, and you can't get to know someone who you don't understand. That's why you see those fc adverts in different languages. There are also plenty of multi-cultural English speaking fc's out there. Auto-translate is mostly for pick up groups and console users.

I'm a French player from Cerberus, and I can tell you this data-center is really a cosmopolitan one ! Many shouts in english, french, german, spanish, russian, italian, etc.
PF are mostly in english, except for recruitment searchs (FC/statics). From what I've seen, many french players (even if some of us are true assholes) can speak a basic english, w/wo auto-translate. Sure, we are not the bests in Europe to practice other languages, but there is a huge difference between our parents and our generation (thanks to game, movies, etc.). In school we have to learn english at least 7 years so please don't make generalizations based on "pictures" ^^
