According to Wiki 854 million was pledged by foreign sources but only 40 million used.
Not to diminish Katrina by any means, but the scale of this disaster seems huge.
In any case, I imagine Japan needs logistical support and expertise more than anything. Although with their debt it'll be hard on them financially I'm sure.
I just wish people recover OK though millions will have suffered huge personal and financial losses.
actually yoshi-p posted earlier on a topic expect delays, I honestly cannot believe as a joke or not people are seriously concerned with a patch schedule after a major disaster strikes. Most I hope for is a letter telling us things are ok
Just use caution and common sense when making donation to relief efforts. disgusting people use times like this to rob the kind hearted.
Japan until a few weeks ago was the second largest economy on the planet. They don't need your donations.
Here's what's going to happen if you text "Takemymoney" to the Red Cross.
They will get your $5, and it will sit in a bank account forever.
There (at last count) was still $1.1 BILLION sitting in NGO coffers from the Haiti earthquake, because these NGOs aren't able to mobilize enough people to actually use all the money.
Instead of throwing $5 at it, wait and see what Japan comes forward and says they actually NEED. Cash up front will help mobilize some rescue and support efforts, yes, but a glut of it doesn't do any good in the long run.
Don't be too rough on poor Eekiki. I don't think this was meant to be insulting. It's rather impressive that the Japanese work the way they do and feel fulfillment in doing so. In a lot of places in NA right now, employees are treated poorly with expectation to produce the same kind of result.
Such a terrible disaster!! i can feel the pain the japanese are having right now, since the disaster is very similar to the earthquake and Tsunami we have here in Chile, around the same period last year...it's a horrible experience
All i can say is: Be Strong Japan!!! Help we'll be on the way!
Thank you! It indeed was not meant to be disrespectful. I'm actually very impressed with how prepared Japan was for this disaster. I'm quite sure that just about anywhere else in the world would have been almost hopelessly decimated by a disaster of this magnitude, but thanks to the infrastructure they had in place, be assured Japan will bounce back stronger than before.
That's not to say there wasn't horrible and irreversible loss here, I'm just saying it very likely isn't as bad as many people think, and were it not for their preparedness it would have been a lot worse.
I pray that the Nuclear Reactor cooling system is fixed before things get worse.
Yeah, that's the only thing I'm worried about. I haven't seen anywhere, did they manage to put the fires out?
