While it would be nice, you can tell all of these "Long" aspects are because of the zoning system. Its why there are bridges in Coeorthas, why there is Small side valleys in MorDhona, why all of Grid/Uldah/Limsa areas have a small narrow section that is some what lengthy in order to allow you to zone easier.

They allow things to disappear from one side and appear at the next. But I think the Uldah gates should be open too, it would be a lot more pleasent i think, especially for new player.

Not only that, Gridania has a lot of narrow pathways, making it silly to see several chocobos going through at the same time.

I can't think of any Final Fantasy that ever let you ride your chocobo through town. Maybe racing in a golden saucer, but never through the saucer.

And I think the lag/loading issues alone would force your chocobo to a crawl anyway.

I actually thought it'd look nice to see chocobos riding through Gridania..Seems natural to let the birds run around there. But in the other cities it'd look too strange..

I like my cities not smelling like chocobo shit. Not only that, but I'd rather not see 10000000 chocobos in the fronds. Also, name one instance where a Final Fantasy game let you travel across town via chocobo, and you may sway my opinion.
