No you do not need this content in order to be properly geared on your way to lvl 60. The Poetic gear is plenty enough to do the lvl 51 dungeon where you get more gear. Or do side quest in the new area with your poetics gear on and get the gear quests.

Okay so suggestions never try to DF coil I have never seen that happen yet lol, ultima bane will most likely never que it took me 30mins as a healer so your a DpS so don't bother with the side content until 60 and do it all un synced as that seem to be the norm these days...or que for it but do something like the atma zodiac wep quest to waste a lot of time or do some gathering, crafting or whatever...

Quit your FC asap, never stay or join a FC where you are ignored...after you join an active helpful FC the friends part will fix itself...

get a crafter friend to craft u a lvl 50 weapon Ilvl 115 or quest for it, don't have to have the Poetics one, you can bypass it with ease now.

You don't need the poetic weapon to progress. At level 50 all the gear you need to progress can be gotten from dungeons and trials. Lv50 dungeons reward gear and tomes that are good enough. 51+ you can get gear from dungeons, MSQ or NPC venders. At level 60 the real gear progression starts.

You can also buy gear from the Market Board, or have a friend craft gear for you.

Don't be scared to leave your FC if it doesn't suit your needs. There are a lot and it's worth searching for the one that's just right for you. And there are FCs out there that help their members with group content. Mine constantly helps new members clear and experience old and new content, simply because we enjoy helping and hanging out.

Ask a friend (in this case you only need one) to go on a shopping spree in Ishgard for you. He'll come back with a bunch of i115 gear for you to equip.

Optional or not, he has a point. Just because a new player doesn't have to do Ultima Bane/Moogle Ex etc doesn't mean the option shouldn't practically exist at all.
