What's up with the targeting in this game?

If it is an offensive spell, it'll get interrupted if you get hit hard enough, move or if target moves out of your frontal arc or out of LOS.

So many people don't realize this also applies to mobs with very few exceptions. I can't begin to count all the times I've seen people eat strong spells or debuffs they could have completely avoided simply by walking through or to the side of the caster. Sometimes mobs (usually bosses) will turn around and cast on you anyway, but in most cases the cast will just fail if you aren't in front of them when they finish.
