I'm on PS4 but I'm a tank and I'm active in my FC and linkshells so I got a cheap usb keyboard. Best decision.

Honestly the Controller/Keyboard Combo is highly efficient. I know many people both on PS4's and PC's who use them both. I also use both. Hotkeys on the keyboard combo'd with cycling of the controller makes for crazy fast and accurate input. you are in for a treat![]()

I play on a PC, but if something happens and I had to play on a PS3/PS4, I wouldn't play unless I had a keyboard next to me. Considering this is an MMO, I feel you lose out on a large part of the experience if you don't communicate with people.
Hey now, don't be bashing on earrings! My earrings were the very first piece of glamour I changed coming over from Heavensward, and I've always made sure they match my hair/glam. Jewelry is serious business.
You'll be glad for your keyboard investment, I picked one up just for this game, and when it broke, I went out the very next day to replace it. Typing with the PS4's soft keyboard in combat, even with it's predictive text, is a a challenge, especially while the tank is waiting for heals in the meantime.

I've played Final Fantasy XIV with a controller since its original launch in 2010. Right now I use a PS4 controller connected to my PC either with a USB cable or through bluetooth.
So ultimately, my controller setup is the same as if I were on a PS4 with a usb keyboard plugged in. I would definitely recommend investing in a cheap USB keyboard for the PS4 to solve the typing issue. Granted, you'd probably need to be capable of typing while keeping your eyes on the screen, but the UI is rather nice in that if I'm attempting to type something mid-battle (as a healer) and someone takes a big hit, I can press O to back out of text input and react, and resume typing where I left off if another moment presents itself.
Alternatively, most boss battles are discussed before they're triggered, and I also see a lot of players (myself included) make macros for reminders of certain mechanics that are simply placed on the hotbar somewhere. Considering there's 8 different hotbar settings, 5 of which are static regardless of which class you're on (not even sure about turning on the extra set for holding L2 and R2 at the same time, might add even more static ones), you could easily set up macros for greetings, parting words, congratulations, apologies, mechanic reminders, and just about anything else. Obviously there's always going to be the occasional unique situation that isn't covered, but it would minimize your need to type while keeping you capable of communicating (and quickly).

Knowing that a player can play on PC with controller and on PS4 with mouse and keyboard, this is not always correct. As a PS4 player everyone would know that I won't be typing/chatting constantly, if at all, as people would know the limitation of the controller in this area, as if you do type then you get abuse for not doing anything and not being quick enough, lose/lose situation.
You can say that a controller player is a bit limited to fast chatting. But it have nothing to do with PS4.

i just bought a cheapo wireless usb keyboard to talk. It wasn't really necessary while leveling up, but at endgame the need became more apparent that i needed to communicate effectively with others.
I also invested in a usb hub. So that i could plug in more than my keyboard and my headset into my ps4.
I have not regretted any of these purchases, and together they evened out at about 25-30 bucks (USD). I recommend the same to you.
It's not hard to talk on the keyboard while using a controller either, you just type while casting or in between GCDs.
Oh my god no, the last thing we need more of in this game is an easier way to discriminate against other players.

I play on PC but I still play with a controller. So I do Dual wield I guess u can say. <3 and Glamour cures all! XD.. And even though I play on a high end PC I would never discriminate against console player.. I have all the consoles myselfThat being said I do wish they'd do away with the PS3 version as it is holding back a lot of things. But I will not discriminate against the players who play on it while im in the game.. Ill take that up with Developers

The only time I've seen a major problem with using a controller over mouse and keyboard, was in situations where there are many adds, and it's smart to focus on only 1 of them.
For instance, my Static had to change their strategy for A2S, because the member we first had in the Gobwalker was having great difficulty selecting the Bomb at times. We swapped over to me, with my mouse-born ability to click the hate table and the bomb's model, and it went much more smoothly in that regard. I haven' noticed any other noteworthy disadvantages.
