I don't know what to do

Today I hit level 60 on culinary and for DoH class for the first time. I was fortunate that the daily bonus script turn in item for culinary was marron glaze. I got overmotivated and ended up unlocking masterbook 3 for culinary and all my other DoH classes. I was very happy and excited to see the new DoH gears and started to do some research on the mats needed to craft the ilvl 170 gears. Mats on mb were overpriced.

So i thought i would gather the more expensive mat myself. I quickly realized gathering the mats myself would be more of a chalenge itself since i'm not entirely sure how to get the mats themselves (For example astral silk - rowena's token is pretty straight forward but there are 2 gathering items i need to turn in as well and these are the ones i'm not sure how to get). So i decided to look at my other alternative which i discoverd are the ilvl 180 gears that you can obtain with red scripts. But then when i did the maths i was very dissapointed to learn that you would need 3 weeks just to unlock the mainhand. I felt unbelievable and angry at how long it will take to get the rest of the gears and for all classes. Therefore i looked for another alternative. There was none.

Now i am not sure what to do anymore and it has seriously demotivated me from maxing my other DoH classes and crafting altogether. Crafting doesn't feel rewarding anymore for me because the reward takes too long to be received. I feel that Square Enix went too far with the time gated content for DoH and because of that they had somehow betrayed me. I don't know how to continue on. I am thinking of taking a break and coming back in 3.1 to see if they would change anything and if the changes is enough or not. I don't really enjoy alexander savage nor do i like the 2 new dungeons. The only thing stopping me now is that i am the leader of my FC and the FC airship

Is there any other alternative that i overlooked? What would you advise me to do?

Nope, those are your only two choices. Your only options are to wait until they fix it Soon™ (most people are doing this), suck it up and deal with it (very few are doing this and most who do still think the system is garbage), or just quit (a lot of people have done this).

This is a pity. I had really liked the crafting system and had thought the crafting in 2.0 to be the best in any mmo, but i guess every good thing must come to an end. I'm going to make preparations for a break then.

I think the "fix it soon" option is going to be a ways off. They already made the obtaining of red scrips (both types) cheaper/faster than before. I think they will let that play out. If there is a "fix" it won't be until the "catch-up patch" which is usually around the time the next tier of stuff comes out.

    Some recent examples:
The 2.4 patch that introduced ehcahtl sealant, etc - the melds required were steep with little margin - you had to pretty much pentameld everything. A couple of months later, they released the artisan body piece which made the pentamelding of the OH tools unnecessary. I think it was that same patch where they dropped the cost of sealant (less ixal tokens) and then after that they increased number of dailies you could do, effectively doubling the sealant available on the server by those farming it.

They also released the artisan-lite gear (the vendor exchanged set that was a springboard for those behind the curve).

I think what we got is the best you'll see until the next tier comes out and makes it obsolete.

So you had an option, decided it was overpriced (Gil)

Looked for an alternative, and decided it was overpriced (time).

And now want an alternative to the alternative because you want it all?....

I don't get crafters. People wanted an endgame, and this is what an MMO endgame is. You get a grind, or you get a price. I'm not an economist, but I'm pretty sure specialisation and trade stimulate an economy. This is a good thing for you, surely?

(I feel I come off as a bit 'tsk towards whittlers but this is not the case, I'd love them to bring back Hamlet - never did it, or cared for it as a DoW/M main, but it was interesting and new for an MMO to me)

Or, you know, they could make crafting actually difficult instead of putting everything behind a massive paywall/timewall. Where's my crafting version of Alex Savage? Gating serves what purpose besides killing off the end game markets?

The gathering items you don't know how to get are from favors; purchased with red gathering tokens.

Op you can get the 60 chim/serpent gear and over meld them to be a 2star 60 crafter. I would suggest just getting your red scrip capped each week and see what happens. Right now if you made the i170 gear unless you have tier 5 materia you can max meld. Plus there is nothing needing that high of stats ATM.

In a vacuum, yes. The problem is the implementation. The grind is overly arduous (far more involved than any of the crafting progression grinds in ARR), and the rewards (2-star gear) are largely meaningless, especially when you factor in the costs of crafting a piece itself. No DoW/DoM is going to pay 10 million or more (the one piece available on my server right now is up for 30 million) for gear that is on the same level as Law gear, weaker than Alexander gear, and far weaker than Esoterics/Savage gear.

I'm an ALC. Nobody wants Grade 2 Dissolvents because making the gear is pointless to begin with. How is specialization benfiting me? I make more money off of level 50 3 and 4 stars than I do anything past level 50.

If you choose to make the new gear there is no gain, it doesn't unlock the ability to crafter better/harder gear. While getting the next eso piece does. Each new eso gives your group the ability to progress farther. Crafting and gathering red scrip gear does not, it is circular and unenjoyable.
