    Raw Material Abundancy

Since I've been mostly checking out all the new stuff that is actually fun, I haven't sat down and crafted any yet (Although I've been overcome with joy with most of the new items, a lot of them look really really awesome). I'm still a little skeptical of how difficult it will be to make the base materials for finished items. A lot of the recipes went from 1x raw -> 3/4/12x base. Has anyone gone out and procured materials and actually crafted through this new 1 to 1 system now, and if so, how good/bad is it now?

At first glance it looks as though this new system severely favors all the people who already have every craft rank 50 and punishes all the people trying to skill up. BUT I don't know all the facts yet.

It works well in my opinion.

It's kind of tough because for armor production the available amounts of material are still pretty high since (at least the stuff I've made so far) doesn't require many materials to make, but for leveling up it's pretty solid.

The game suffered from serious overabundance of some materials while making others a pain to go out and get for that one recipe you need to do.

Was the skill points increased any? For making a particular item it doesn't look too bad. I'm just looking at something like cotton thread or sheep leather. Before it was 2x boll + 1 Lightning Crystal= 12x thread = 12x cloth. So to make a stack took 18 bolls and 9 crystals for 108 cloths which would last you a decent amount of crafting. Now that same synth only gives me 9 cloths, and uses a ton more lightning shards. Might be getting pricey to level now.

Certain things like sheepskin were already crazy expensive and that's when it put out 4x leathers, now that it puts out only 1 I'm a bit worried. (Although I did see a ton of sheep EVERYWHERE in LL, so that may counterbalance it)

Never buy sheepskin, it iss actually stupid easy to get you just need to know where (hint: southern La Noscea), so that's not really an issue, and the thing with the lightning shards is it's a lot of shards but it's also not crystals. Personally I've always hard a hard time getting lightning crystals but found several good shard farming options.

The tough thing about assessing the exp is I don't think we really know the levels of things for sure yet now, at least not the new stuff unless I missed a thread where some ambitious crafters have been putting their minds to work.

Ultimately, based on not nearly enough information to say anything for sure, I would guess that we've made a trade, in that materials are somewhat harder to get your hands on, but then the stuff you use the material for is DRAMATICALLY easier. That'd be a win in my book honestly.

I'd say if you can put any use to them, do so. The recipes will be removed in the future and people probably won't buy useless raw/base materials so go ahead and squeeze out any skill points you can. Otherwise I'd just NPC them personally, we have a lot more inventory space now but it'll fill up soon and dead items will take up space.

Basically if you are interested in crafting (as in taking something to 50 or at least like 30+ in the semi-near future) it's worth the effort, if you aren't it isn't.

On a relatively new character, while still below level 10 on all my crafting classes, I was able to use a fair amount of what I had saved up before the patch to craft a full set of equipment for my level 13 GLA. What materials I didn't have I could just go and buy from an NPC, or use the required crafts to procure it. Each piece of equipment required roughly 2-3 synths total to make, at 200-300 exp per synth. It didn't take very long either, maybe under an hour.

I'd hang on to anything except parts (like tabard fronts and cotton sleeves, etc). You have that extra 300 units of space to use, and the old synths still work. whatever equipment you make is just more exp/gold for you, even though I doubt dated equipment will sell for much. Still useable for materia though.

Besides, the exp you gain while crafting these things can go towards the spiritbond on your equipment.

Worth noting that you can also NPC things for quite a bit so even if you make dated crap you can make some solid gil there.

Unless they dropped the buying price for that stuff. Don't remember seeing that in the patch notes but I only just considered it so I have no idea.

Adapt by skilling up on recipes making the raw materials instead?
E.g. Rosewood log is viable from 38 to about 44 or so, being a 46 recipe.
