It's entirely possible that the two events were linked, as they took place in the same year.

they are probably linked, it makes perfect sense. But. ala mhigo battle was, 20 years ago, 5 years after that , they attack silvertear (15 years ago) i always thought the 1.x series started roughly 10 years after Silvertear battle. By the end of that, Dalamud fell (5 years ago). Am i wrong in those numbers? These cronologys are always a pain since, its been 2 years of ARR and it is still 5 years from the calamity, The 1.x story was also during, a very wierd period of time, story wise.

Annnnnd that's why 1.0 story is mostly waved away. Too much of a grey area to sort out for ARR.

I'd just like to throw out there that stretches of time divisible by five turn out to be busy years for Eorzea. From 1572, a lot of things happened precisely ten years prior, and the Garleans invaded five years before that, and then we jumped five years ahead 1.0 to 2.0. It doesn't necessarily mean that all concurrent events are tied together as much as it means that the development team probably just keeps an easy-to-understand timetable of recent events by design. For example, as far as we've been told, it's more or less coincidental that the Meteor Project had a breakthrough (the Bozja Citadel incident) in the same year as Gaius moved on Mor Dhona, it was just a convenient, divisible-by-five, point in history to put the event.

That said, the breaking of the seal at Silvertear Falls, the occurrence of the Starshower (which, as far as we can tell, actually happened in 1562, but everyone who awakens to the Echo sees an instant replay at their awakening), the appearance of the Echo, and the escalation of Ascian activity are indeed linked. But it's all correlation until we know causation. For instance, one might assume that the breaking the seal was design to bring the Echo, but it could also be that Hydaelyn sounded the Echo in response to the unplanned breaking of the seal. Or that the breaking of the seal led to events that were such a threat to the planet that Hydaelyn sounded the Echo as she would have if other events threatened the world if it didn't break.

With that in mind - keep speculating

    • ARR onward is perpetually encased in a "time bubble" of about a year, straddling this transition
