Sure you did. At least if you're going to lie about it, make it believable. I literally just did this last night on a new character to see how it went and it took me an incredibly long time to even get to level 4. I think you are full of crap.

So I'm lying? That sounds reasonable.

Leveled on the lvl2-3 coblyns outside Ul'dah first, then moved to chigoes. EXP dropped from 105 to around 61~68 but kills were fast. All this done with the starting equipment. Got around 13k gil as well by doing the missions (although I already used some). Now I'm spamming LTW GL's and getting amazing EXP. Almost lvl7 now after an hour. Uwilsyng is getting dated sheepskin subligars for a lifetime!
