    About bars and controller users

i don't know if theres a way to adress this qol issue or if it hasn't been suggested, but as heavensward appear new usefull skills that not replace old ones came, meaning that we have to "push" more buttons.

so what i'm asking is that if there any way so that L1 button can be assigned to an additional bar like LB or RT shown in the picture below, or if you could use the buttons to map in normal hot bars, as of rigth now only use for L1 is for auto run and is kinda useless on battles.

Use extended crossbars so you can push LT+RT or RT+LT to get quick access to another bar. Super convenient and easy. Most non-pet jobs can fit all skills including crossclass stuff on two crossbars (32 skills).

I would like the option to remap the hotbar/controller layout as well. With the intent of being able to place all my skills on the XBYA.
    Hotbar 1: LB=XBYA
    Hotbar 2: RB=XBYA
    Hotbar 3: LT=XBYA
    Hotbar 4: RT=XBYA
    Hotbar 5: LT+RT= XBYA
    Hotbar 6: RT+LT=XBYA
    Hotbar 7: LB+RB=XBYA
    Hotbar 8: RB+LB=XBYA
    =32 skills

With this layout I would never have to take my left thumb off the analog stick in the situation of dodging enemy skills fast. Then my D-pad would be freed up for whatever I want there.

    For example:
I could have one extra setup. If I hold LB+RB+LT+RT at same time with the ability to set it to multiple hotbar changes. I could switch to a whole other set of hotbars 9-16, where I could set all skills to the XBYA.

Of course this would require the controller hotbar cap to be raised to 16. If SE wanted to look into that.

Conveniently the exact number of hotkeys you need to play dragoon.

Yeah you can. I am not saying the game is unplayable as it is now. I just have a preference of not having to take my finger off my movement button. What would be the solution when more abilities come later down the road though?

If movement wasn't such a requirement in combat, especially as you get higher and higher in levels. I wouldn't feel such a need to keep my finger on the movement pulse. There is a concept I learned in music called economy of motion. The basic is the less distance your fingers have to move to travel the playing surface, the faster and smoother your playing becomes.

As a controller user on either PC or PS4, here's how I layout my bars.

    1) Weapon Drawn Hotbars. Set three hotbars to be not shared among classes. Then make one of them your Main Bar (we'll call it 1). Then, disable auto sheathe and make L3 draw weapon only (not Draw/Lock Target). In essence, this makes it so you only have one bar of skills accessible when fighting. These are your primary rotation/skills.

    2) Quick Bars. Make a second unshared hotbar (2) the skills that you use in battle, but not the ones that you use constantly. These can be situational, or long cooldowns. Enable access to them with the L2+R2 combo Seekified mentioned.

    3) Everything else. Put stuff that you either ONLY use outside of combat, or non-emergency spells on the last unshared hotbar. These can be accessed using R1+(a Dpad or Face button).

So, as a WHM, my Main Skills are on (1). No matter where I find myself, if I draw my weapon, there they are. If I select an enemy, they are there. And the best part, is since (1) is the only bar available via direct switch, quickpressing R1 in combat never accidentally removes them. My secondary skills (Raise, Sprint, potions, etc...) are on a second hotbar that I can access quickly via L2+R2, but I always come back to (1). And if I need anything on (3), like maybe Protect or Stoneskin II, I can R1+X (if it is actually hotbar 3), cast it, and then quickpress R1 again to go right back to my main bar (1), without fail. These skills could even be macro'd to in

The biggest drawback at first is remembering that you have to draw your weapon first, but just a little practice will take care of that.

start/select/r3/l3 also go relatively unused while holding down an R2/L2 trigger. I'd give up the ability to edit hotbars or lock target while holding a trigger for more action slots.

A couple of things that could help dodge things better.
1)Change sprint to empty a reserve you don't need based off the class you play, so you can use it in battle.
2)Add a dodge roll mechanic set to the A button being held down, the direction you flick the left analog determines the direction you roll. Tapping the left analog twice in a direction while the A button is held down will have you dash jump in the direction pressed on the analog.

Ahhh I find it funny that I made a post like this in the user interface forum basically asking the same thing. But I highly doubt they would switch L1 to like a backwards switch through the hotbars. Found my thread!
Hotbar L2+R2 question and hotbar sugesstion. (On PS4)

But basically I ended up doing what the others are saying and using the expanded hotbar designed to be different on each class so that my pet actions don't appear for my blm, etc. It's pretty nifty. However, my scholar looks exactly like the picture you shared. And I use the extra horizontal hotbar for my pet hotbar. However I'm sure there is a way to go about using it for other actions and then using keybinding to it if you want. I would love to post pictures but I at the moment cannot. I did manage to find this thread that should help though. Using both Keyboard and Gamepad at the Same Time After adding the hotbar, all you need to do is then go into the HUD layout and place it where you want, and if you wanna use the keyboard for those actions, you gotta assign keybindings to the actions in the keybind option.

Question about the extended crossbar option:

It's there to make it easier to access more buttons but... the bar you are actually activating with the extension still is there when you toggle, or is it something I'm overlooking?

Example, I play with 2 crossbars normally, I can fit everything (blm&whm 60) in two bars nicely. But thinking about sch or smn, I WILL need a third bar, and I tried this "extended crossbar" option. I thought it was neat, I can toggle from Xbar 1 to 2, and then press the extended combo to get another micro Xbar which is hosted in Xbar 8, but wait, I toggle back and forth and Xbar 8 also toggles. I thought that bar would be hidden for toggles if you have it on extended? What am I doing wrong? I really get mixed up in duties with 3 bars :/

    Bloodrayne, exactly your point hehe
