Can't switch audio devices in game

Why is it I cannot switch audio output devices while in game and have the sound work? I'm on PC and sometimes I like playing with the sound through the speakers. If I want to switch to my wireless USB headset to talk on a VoIP client, I have to quit the game completely, then start it again for the in game sound to work. Or if I disconnect my headset then plug it back in later while in game, I still have to quit. I'm assuming this is just a PC thing since for console you can switch audio on a receiver or via the TV etc...

Has SE ever addressed this? It's pretty annoying. Anyone else have this issue?

Yep same thing for me. I use a PC connected to a receiver and have this issue all the time. SE's client is pretty clunky in this regard.

I have the same issue with audio. My headset will randomly disconnect then reconnect and when that happens I need to quit to desktop then log back in. Super annoying to have to go through the authentication, log in, load server, wait in queue, and get back into the game only to have it happen again in another hour or so... It's to the point I dont bother anymore and I have no idea how many scenes are voiced in 3.0 because of this...

I have no issues with any other game and the disconnect thing, It blips, i hear the "beedoo... boodee", then shit just works. I have since solved the issue on my end of the disconnecting but from time to time one of the kids or dog will knock the cord out from its new socket and then I'm back to square one.

Only resolution I know is to use a virtual sound driver like razer surround. That way all your sound goes into there and you then decide what device it outputs too.

It serves the purpose of fixing this specific issue. I do however find the "enhancements" it automatically runs at times wash your sound out a bit on high quality headphones. Otherwise works for what it needs to do.

This isn't a issue in only xiv. Many programs can't switch audio sources on the fly. If you happen to have surround sound headphones I imagine 5 his would be perfect. I don't and it still attempts to emulate 3d sound decently enough.
