    Confused

So I go today to do the Sylph dailies. One of them says it's for FATE for Magitek armor. That one is listed in my objectives, but the NPC carries a red badge over his head, when I click on it it says it's the same quest I already got. I head off to fulfill it. At the designated location I find a circle with a blue background (on the map) and an ! in the center of the circle. There is no visible indication in this area if there's anything to click on. I abandoned it, and reacquired it, only to see the same and result, not much to do.

So I try to run around the area to see if maybe I had to climb up a tree or something like that. By the way the location was in the middle of a very narrow passageway from one open area to another open area. For no apparent reason it seems an NPC shows that called Magitech armor. I felt like I was hitting them as if I was back to being level 10. I kept whistling him down except my sleep spell got to the point where it only sleep for about five seconds. Somehow or other he managed to pull a whole bunch of adds and roaming monsters into this little narrow passageway, so down I went.

Tried it a third time except I couldn't figure out how to get the damn thing to spawn in the first place. Would love to hear an explanation as to what was going on here.

Many of the Beast Tribe quests require you to go complete FATEs. The quests will display where that FATE will appear... but it's will appear, just like any other possible FATE. You just have to wait for it to show up; maybe clear some other nearby FATEs to make the game cycle them a bit faster.

That particular one requires you to defeat a mini-boss in a FATE, which is a bit tricky to do by yourself unfortunately.

I get that part, it's just that the symbology (blue background circle w/! at the fight location) I had never seen before... it was not at all like how FATEs seem to normally be displayed... either via a big blue circle on the map OR an actual FATE quest giver NPC that you first have to interact with (both showing the purple FATE badge).

Also doesn't explain why the original quest/daily giver went to a red tinged overhead mark, indicating some reason why one can NOT pick up said quest.

Ah, the conjoining of quest area and FATEs... makes me sad! Because I play mostly during the day, many is the time nobody else is doing anything with the FATE, so I can "feel" all those angry eyes on me! Not so much an issue when one needs to level sync, but still... more mobs than usual that can be inadvertently drawn in.

Yeah, when I DID have the chance, he was very tough... but I kept whittling him down ever so slowly (sleep, heal, damage, sleep, heal damage)... I think to about quarter health... but it was the additional mobs that got kinda pulled into the fight that eventually wasted me. Next time, I'll mini-kite him into the center of that passageway first, I can dodge back and forth without ever getting close to the open areas (hopefully).

The reason this happens is because the quest requires you to bring back an item drop from that FATE. So until you have the item the icon remains red, meaning you can't complete it. Once you have the item it will turn green.

The other reason for the icon on the FATE, is the type of FATE. The ! is a boss FATE, kill enemy FATE will be indicated by an axe, lance, sword that are crossed, defense FATE is a castle rook, gather items FATE is a satchel, and escort FATE is a shield.

The blueish exclamation mark only shows you where the according fate will spawn eventually. You'll encounter those marks when unlocking the Crystal Tower-raid, too.

tyi: You may not know that you can get the Fate-drops always, although you're not having the quests right now.
If you're starting with a beasttribe you can look at http://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wi...d_Daily_Quests for example, search for "Fate" and do those whenever your stumbling over them.

Don't get to much though, it's random if you get the quest often enugh to spend all items. I had to throw away at least 10 fate-items (across all beastrtribes) when I was done with the tribes. -.- ^^

Ah, thanks for clearing some stuff up! Actually, I went again this morning (before reading the last 2 comments) and sure enough, all the same things happened. So I went and did some reaserch on the quest itself... oh boy. I found threads from 3 YEARS ago about the incredibly long spawn timer (3 HOURS). Found some threads about 1-2 years ago saying SE had "fixed" it, but best they could guess was it was now something like 45 minutes.

Now I am pretty familiar with now MMOs need to be designed, given I played the "other" one for 3 years or so (not to mention I do have some experience managing software development). This one here is about as badly designed as you can get. First, they CAN put an NPC there so we can manually trigger the FATE. Second they should not spawn other FATES almost on top of this one... the one time I COULD get to try it, there were dozens of FATE mobs right near it and nobody at all doing the FATE, so I seemed to get aggro on several of those idle mobs! Third, this is a DAILY, so in no way should we be forced to sit there waiting for up to 45 minutes for it to spawn. By that time it could be pitch dark outside, so a huge disadvantage to whomever is trying to do it (and THAT is a whole nother kettle of fish, one of today's other dailies had something on a roof I had to do, it was so pitch dark I had to wait for some light to even have a clue how to get ABOVE the roof I had to drop down onto).

Checked oujt the wiki you posted an address for... ha, doesn't even list this one at all. FWIW, the quest is called "The Magitek Menace" but the FATE is called A Wrench in the Works." BUT I had no idea there were different level dailies from different NPCs... somehow I seem to recall there is a max limit of 6 of the beast dailies one can do each day (correct?).

UPDATE: So I was looking at my maps and saw this FATE HAD commenced, so I high tailed it there. Of course, by the time I got to the spot, I saw a Failed message, so I sat to wait. Gave up after waiting over 20 mins... it went from daylight to deepest night.

Like I said VERY bad design... so easily solved by putting a NPC in there to trigger it. As it HAS been an issue for 3 years, doubtful it will really get addressd, shame.

The boss type FATEs do take a while to spawn. As for pulling aggro on other mobs, if you do pull them before getting there, kill them before starting the FATE. Once you get the FATE going, pull the Boss down that alley way a little bit to stay out of the line of sight of the other mobs. Don't pull it so far that the mobs down there get on you. If I remember it correctly that boss has 2 AOE attacks frontal and circle, frontal just run behind him, circle just enough to clear it, but don't run into those other mobs.

If you are still having trouble give a "shout" out to ask for help, maybe someone around will assist you.

You can just summon your Chocobo for the extra boost needed to win, especially if you made a heal based chocobo.

You waited 20 min... You do know that the Book Fates for the Animus upgrade could easily have you waiting 4-6 hours, right? God forbid you fail the FATE and have to wait again. The way how you have to do this is to constantly check your map for when it spawns while doing the other non-FATE beast dailies and then rush over to complete it when you see it go up. It seriously only requires 30 min max in order for it to respawn, and you can stockpile the items you get from it even if you don't have the quest.

It used to be 6. They've now increased it to 12 per day. Each quest giver only offers 3 quests per day, though, so you need to rank up a bit before you can use them all on the same beast tribe. (Once you're at "Trusted" reputation level, for instance, you can do the three Trusted quests, three Friendly quests, three Recognized quests, and three Neutral quests, with each rank of quests coming from a different NPC. Before then, you can only do all 12 quests by dividing them between different Beast Tribes.)
