Agreed. We need a better system. Glamour really is a focus of so much content that we need a system that can let us use it when we'd like. Ideal would be separate glamour slots we can use alongside our equipment slots, rather than glamouring appearances onto gear itself. (If nothing's in the glamour slot, the directly equipped item is shown.) And yes, that would be a major revamp from what we have now, but the issue is really kind of in need of such a major revamp.

(In the meantime, even just removing the "UNIQUE" restriction on 95% of the gear that has it would help. Tome gear or anything we can turn in for seals has no reason to have its uniqueness enforced like that.)

E.G. I have a gearset called DRK and a gearset called PLD. On the DRK gearset I glamour chaos burgeonet to the head slot while on the PLD gearset I glamour Valor coronet to the head slot.

No matter what gear I wear while equipped with the PLD gearset I will always appear to be wearing the valor coronet. I could wear the hellfire mask of fending or switch to midan helm of fending, as long as it registers me as wearing the PLD gearset it will appear as the valor coronet. But as soon as I switch to the DRK gearset it will change to the chaos burgeonet.
We'd have to also be able to switch out individual pieces and see them, particularly when we get new glamour items. Otherwise, we'd be stuck having to create a brand new gearset for every item we get, which wouldn't work well with a limit on the number of gear sets we can have. So there would have to be options for swapping the equipped gear but keeping the saved appearance or swapping it out and seeing the new appearance or just swapping in a new appearance but keeping the equipped gear. So while gear sets work for switching sets we've already set up, we need access to setting them up apart from those saved sets.

All that really comes down to having two equipment slots for each piece of visible gear: the main equipment slot, and the glamour equipment slot. We should be able to move items to/from either slot as we wish when we're putting together a new outfit (completely apart from any saved gear sets), since it could be either the stat item or the glamour item we want to update. Then when we save a Gear Set, have it remember both, and re-equip both when we activate the set.

When it comes down to it, the most intuitive and elegant system is that found in games like Rift and WildStar and potentially others. We need to be able to save all gear appearances into a wardrobe, and from that wardrobe select appearances to create outfits that are completely separate from the gear we are wearing. Not only does this let us create multiple outfits at once and switch between them, but it solves the problem of different jobs sharing base gear and thus being unable to have different glamours - PLUS it fixes a massive inventory problem.

Anything less than this is simply shoddy bandages on a shoddy system.

Yoshida: This is not to say we won't do it at all. However, doing so with the current system would require rewriting data for several thousand items, which may lead to bug-related issues. Therefore, even if we were to do it, we would need to come up with another method.
Then start from scratch then, but get it done. I know what's it like to rewrite thousands of lines of code as a result of a copy/paste error, and while this is not quite the same thing, what is the same is the demand for a finished and functional system.

If they can't/won't do it, then it is time for more job specific armor. A WAR should not have to look like a PLD or vice-versa in order to optimize their gear. Right now my healers and my gatherers have different looks that pertain to their jobs, but I had to get multiple sets of the same gear to do it. This is ok now at my level when the stuff is easily obtained, but what happens when the piece of gear is a unique and rare drop? Or if I want to give them specific melds?

Devs, this system needs to improve. I think I can speak for each and everyone of us when I say, "Please".

Well some games did it (starting from scratches) like when Rift added the catalog, before the you had to have the piece of equipement and draw it in a particular slot, resulting in the same storage issue we have now on FF.
So if they were abble to do it, why not SE ?

This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.

Couldn't they let us cast one glamour onto our job stone item then as a stop-gap measure? Add the appearance line to the stone and another 'this appearance always takes priority' line?

Wouldn't be perfect but I could make my tank jobs work well enough with one line I reckon.

I support fully the ability to save a glamour. One should be able to use the same high level gear for multiple glamours. Those glamours should be useable even without gear in your armory. Any of us who have leveled all roles, war/magic and gather/craft just have to suffer with little to no space to have FUN with glamours.

Just give us the opportunity to right-click on our job stone to open a 2nd gear window, where we can place gear on or glamour the 11 slots.
Those 'glamours' are written then into the not-changeable glamour section of the items Minagawa talked about, whenever you switch jobs.

I don't want to say it's 'ez', but I can imagine ways of giving us such a feature without touching the data structure of all items.
It's likely still quite sophisticated to program, idk,but I think its worth it.
