Yoshida: This is not to say we won't do it at all. However, doing so with the current system would require rewriting data for several thousand items, which may lead to bug-related issues. Therefore, even if we were to do it, we would need to come up with another method.
Then start from scratch then, but get it done. I know what's it like to rewrite thousands of lines of code as a result of a copy/paste error, and while this is not quite the same thing, what is the same is the demand for a finished and functional system.

If they can't/won't do it, then it is time for more job specific armor. A WAR should not have to look like a PLD or vice-versa in order to optimize their gear. Right now my healers and my gatherers have different looks that pertain to their jobs, but I had to get multiple sets of the same gear to do it. This is ok now at my level when the stuff is easily obtained, but what happens when the piece of gear is a unique and rare drop? Or if I want to give them specific melds?

Devs, this system needs to improve. I think I can speak for each and everyone of us when I say, "Please".

Couldn't they let us cast one glamour onto our job stone item then as a stop-gap measure? Add the appearance line to the stone and another 'this appearance always takes priority' line?

Wouldn't be perfect but I could make my tank jobs work well enough with one line I reckon.

Just give us the opportunity to right-click on our job stone to open a 2nd gear window, where we can place gear on or glamour the 11 slots.
Those 'glamours' are written then into the not-changeable glamour section of the items Minagawa talked about, whenever you switch jobs.

I don't want to say it's 'ez', but I can imagine ways of giving us such a feature without touching the data structure of all items.
It's likely still quite sophisticated to program, idk,but I think its worth it.

I've boycotted glamours until there's some kind of change to this system, I don't want to hear anything about system limitations because ffxi is a ps2 era game and their glamour system is better than this...

I hate having to sacrifice my DRK and WAR to the generic hellfire set so my PLD can be glamoured as a cool silver knight.

My friend also wanted her MCH to look like an army private but she didn't want it on her BRD so she had to scrap the whole idea. It's just a waste of creativity with glamours.

This game is trying too hard to be like other MMOs when it's not other MMOs. there are plenty out there that let you glamour your gear but there are very few out there that let you have multiple jobs on one character. They can't use systems from single "job" based games for a game that supposedly lets you play any job you want on one character. This problem isn't just limited to glamours either it's a problem with the very core of the game with things like weekly caps which limit you to effectively gearing 1-2 jobs and leaving all the rest in the dust.

Well frankly, I think they should start from scratch then... Their glamour system is atrocious. And in a game where basically 80% of content is only there to get glamour items I think it's kind of important to get that system right and they most certainly haven't.

What idiot thought "In a game where 3+ jobs are going to be sharing the same piece of gear, it'll be fine to make it so you can only change the look of it for one of them!".

Because the glamour system was added in a patch and was not designed from the beginning, the way gear appearance is generated was obviously not programmed with easy implementation of glamours in mind (not surprising given they were rather under the pump to get the game to launch and to ensure it's core systems were functional and free of problems, at the expense of 'fluff' concepts that were overlooked or put to the bottom of the 'to do' pile - glamour is just such a minor aspect of the game in the grand scheme of things and so they had to work with what they had.

However, I do agree FFXI's glamour system (that was added after FFXIV's system by the way) is handled a lot better, but that also has it's drawbacks (FFXI it's called 'style lock' and is a setting in Config, and is actually does not change that gear's appearance, but just locks your current appearance to whatever you happen to be wearing at the time, and is deactivated by enemy attacks that force-remove gear, which a lot of high-level enemies in FFXI use, like Yagudo in Campaign). Also style lock is deactivated if you change Jobs, thus preventing wearing another Job's AF or appearance (see below).

Either way, despite it's drawbacks and restrictions (which are there for a good reason, the 'no glamouring Job-specific gear like AF on another Job - I know I certainly don't want to see some stupid WAR dressing in WHM AF for lulz for instance, which is the main restriction players are complaining about), it's better than having no glamour system at all, and I am thankful for that. If SE can improve the glamour system, great! But I think they've made it clear just what an ugly can of worms doing so would truly be so I think we have a better chance of seeing version 1.0 restored to service and given updates than seeing any great changes to the glamour system I'm afraid.

The could just create an "Advanced Glamour" system after you reach 50 of course. Only jobs, not classes, could utilize the system.

You create your outfit, glamour it onto yourself, or just wear it outright. You approach an NPC in idyllshire (or mor dhona) promising everlasting beauty. While wearing your "perfect" outfit, the npc imbues it's glamour onto your soul stone, effectively overwriting any other glamours in place.

If you try to equip an item that is below the item level of what you have "advanced glamoured" it would say the item cannot be equipped. You would also be unable to simply unequip gear to strip. A glamour dispeller would remove it.

If they just created a basic catalog with say a "Multi prism" (say 1 of each to craft?) to just let us swap out a full set for a pre-saved one, would also save some hassle. Say register X amount of glamours, use a Multi-prism and select the glamour you want, instantly a new set is glamored on. Switch classes (say to a different tank), use another prism and back to the original.

I guess a way it could work is you wear the items you want, use the prism to copy (and use several so you have say x10 of the outfit for re-glamour) then you can switch. Would also save some people time if they have an outfit they use for everything. I can think of one Roe on the server who seems to use the same set for everything.

    Much needed improvement {yes please}.

If it would take a complete revamp then its time to do so. I realize the vast amount of work involved but in reality this is 2016...the game should offer all the perks much older games do. The rush to get the game back in action shouldn't be a scapegoat forever to remain in the dark ages, the time does need to be allotted to upgrade the game to modern standards imo

ie/ glamour book, player created housing, ui revamp with many new player choices /preferences/options added etc.

    Please consider SE !!

^ this, they're into their first expansion now coming up on their second, 2.0's rushed launch or PS3 limitations aren't an acceptable excuse anymore. It's becoming a bit of a "the dog ate my homework" situation, just not buying it anymore. I realise it's a lot of work to revamp the system but it's work that needs to be done. Like I said, the majority of the rewards in this game are redundant if not for glamour so if they want to keep forcing us back into old content they need to make the only reward we're getting for it part of a system we can actually use.

People say glamour is the true endgame and they're really only half joking, only a tiny portion of gear in the game is actually relevant and gets made redundant fast and it's only use after that is glamour. It is an integral system at this point and that warrants a revamp.
